prior to bubs 6 week growth spurt he was a fantastic sleeper.. up for 2 hours max during the day and sleeping up to 3 hours at a time... and 2 x 5 hours sleep at night... talk about heven right ?!?!?!

Now.. hes up for almost 4 hours at a go and up 3 times in the night for a feed and a nappy change..

Not through lack of trying.. i feed him the same and have kept to the same "sleep time" routine.. but its not working

I know they start to sleep less during the day and become a bit fussier now but what should i expect now at 9 weeks old ?? How much sleep is 'enough'

any advice or www info muchly appreciated..

P.s he does seem very happy and content when awake and i dont think im missing any tired signs.. he just wont sleep !!

thanks in advance

Some babies need less sleep than others during the day, and frequent night waking is still pretty normal at this age too - just go with the flow! If bub seems happy, and is still drinking / weeing / pooing etc I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

I have discovered something through talking to friends etc. If I don't feed DD every three hours during the day, she only sleeps for four or five hours at night. So for the last couple of days I've been making sure I feed her every three hours, and she did 6 hrs Friday night, and eight (!) last night.

Might be an idea.

The thing about books is that numbers like those are usually just averages, and not every baby is going to fit - some have to fall on either side of "normal".

You also can't force a baby to go to sleep, only encourage them gently.

I agree with the others - every baby is different. I too am finding this age (9 weeks) harder than the first 6 or 8 weeks. For those weeks Ashley barely cried but now she does etc.

I know for her, if we have the luxury of staying home, 30mins up is her limit and if put back to bed will sleep 2 to 3 hours. If she is up longer e.g. because we are out and she won't settle, her naps get shorter and she gets more grumpy.

I do know of some babies this age who are perfectly content with a couple of 20min naps.

So....no help really other than to say (a) I'm finding 9 weeks tricky too and (b) each baby is different so just play around until you find what works best for you.
