Well, our wee girl has been fitted with a harness today that she needs to wear for 6 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this?

My sister worn one when she was a bubba (her right hip was completely dislocated when she was born). The only problem my mum had was it was in the day of old cloth nappies and they would make the harness smell!

It didnt really bother my sister and at 9 months she was literally running. It really did the job too because she went on to compete at state level for netball and athletics.

I think Vanessa (Jack and Charli's mum) had Jack in one for a while from memory?

yep he was emma

jack was breech and we had his hips checked on day 2 and he was fitted with his harness at 1wk. he wore it til he was 10wks. we had several follow up scans but it did the trick and he is all ok now.

it wasn't really a problem apart from trying to find clothes to fit him. luckily he was so little (5lb 12oz)that clothing had plenty of room. it sucked only bathing him every 2wks at the hospital and sponge bathing him in between though.

when he had the harness taken off, he seemed so long! i didn't know what to do with his legs when i was feeding him

it's great that they have caught the problem now before ellie starts moving around, she won't really know any different

pm me if you need hun xxxx

Thanks for that Vanessa. They've told us we can put it over the top of her clothes and thqt we can bath her when ever we like (obviously taking it off of course lol) What a different set of rules for us both!? How 'bad' were his hips? It's only 1 of Ellie's hips so I wonder if that's why they are being more flexible with it's use

i know emma!!   he was soooo teeny tiny! he was 5lb 12oz at birth and i thought charli was tiny at 7lbs 6oz

anna, i can't remember if both jack's hips were dislocated or just one and the other was clicky....i'm such a bad mummy!!
i do know that they were both 'dodgy' so we couldn't put the harness on ourselves because it had to be at the right height etc   will make life abit easier for you to be able to take ellie's on and off. also, wearing clothes underneath will stop it from rubbing on her skin. jack's would rub on his chest and leave red marks

Hi Brenna. I had the same thing when I was a baby, thankfully there have been advances as I was in traction in hospital for most of the time and then frog plaster (waist to ankle) after that. 23 years later and nothing to worry about, just occasionally got to take it a bit easier on the netball court! and my big concern about it possibly affecting my baby's birth next year is nothing to worry about.
So while it's a bit uncomfortable now, all will be fine in the long term
Hope your wee girl is doing well
