Has anyone else had a baby that has had thrush and seems unhappy? My six week old has been unsettled at feeds and the doctor said today he has thrush. We're also hoping that might be what has been making him a bit miserable as we're worried that it could be reflux.

My wee man has what we think is oral thrush since he was about 3 weeks old - he's now 9 weeks. His tongue is coated with white and he seems to poke out and suck his tongue a lot. I went to the chemist to get yet another dose of Nilstat to treat it and the pharmacist said is it's no better after this one to get the diagnosis of thrush checked. We are off to the doctor tomorrow to see. I will let you know what happens.

Caden had thrush in his mouth when he was a newborn, but apart from making my nipples really sore, i dont think it bothered him. We just had some cherry flavoured stuff we had to put in his mouth.

Some of the babys at work who end up with thrush tend to go off their feeding.
If baby has oral thrush, you need to make sure that whatever he is feeding off is clean.
Ie breast, you should was it before and after a feed. If a bottle, sterilise it very well.
(I'm sure you know all this tho)
All the best

Lydia had thrush in her mouth twice - the nilstat (cherry stuff) cleared it up twice, but not the other time (didn't do anything!). We used Daktarin oral gel - but only on MW's recommendation and instruction! They don't like to give it to babies cos apparantly a baby choked on it once upon a time - but it used to be what they gave first. Worked a treat!

Yeah, you have to sterilise EVERYTHING (excl. (.)(.) - lol) to kill the bugs, or it will keep re-infecting.

Hey Bec, my DD had thrush for ages - I was given 10 bottles of Nilstat from Doctor and told to put it on everything - including my nipples.. We'd steralise her dummies and then soak in Nilstat aswell. Sounds over the top but cleared up within a week.
New baby joys.. Good luck...
