Today Jackson has been all over the place. He has only had one 3 hour sleep which was from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Since then he has slept an hour at the most and even then Im lucky to get that out of him.

He had a huge power chuck earlier so thought he had wind issues but both DH and I have tried winding him.
He is only falling asleep on the breast and then its only for 10 or so minutes before he starts crying again... I checked his temp earlier and it was 35.9 so I dont think he is unwell.

Gah, help!!! What do I do?? What could be the problem?? Im about to try a shower (he loves the water) so will see how I go with that

aw hugs hun - I didn't want to read and run - but don't have much constructive advice.

I know that my DD from the age of about 2 weeks refused to go to sleep until about 11 pm -she just wanted to be sitting up with us or feeding till then. She didn't start going to bed any earlier than that until about 3 months old . . .

Is he just being super-hungry? If he is happy to sit up with you and feed then i would do that - it is easier on you both when it gets like this!

Unfortunately, he sounds like a normal newborn.

Also are you putting him on the beast whenever you can't settle him? If so he might be a bit overfull and that could be the reason he brought it all back up.

Id invest in a sling and let him sleep on you.

I agree with lilfatty. He will possibly be completely different today which can be frustrating as you often don't know what is happening from one minute to the next. For us Ben slept really poorly on Friday then was brilliant on Saturday and Sunday causing DH to comment (jokingly) that he was such an easy baby. Que Ben to sleep poorly the next day when DH is at work!
At his age I would just go with it unless it lasts more than a day or so.

Have you seen "The Happiest Baby on the Block"?  I cannot recommend this dvd enough.  It teaches simple yet effective ways to settle a fussy newborn and you won't believe how well it works (even my mum who has 6 kids and 7 grandkids older than Andrew was impressed when she watched it and tried the techniques).

ETA I hope today is a better day and his unsettledness was a one off.

Thanks everyone. LF now in hind sight I think he may have been overfull. I was putting him on the breast and he would feed for a minute or 2 then fall asleep.

After I posted I let him sleep on me for just over an hour before putting him to bed with a watch and cuddly toy DH and I had slept on before he was born. Thankfully he slept from 9pm to 3am

Thanks Jo. I havent seen the DVD so I will check out the library for it. Im keen to give anything a go!

If you can't find it at the library the author of happiest baby, Dr Harvey Karp (i think) has some videos on some of his techniques on you-tube.
Good luck, you'll get there
