I am SO frustrated at the public health system. As many of you would be aware, there is a shortage of public speech language therapists around the country. There's basically only one left working at CCDHB. We lost ours and haven't qualified for further assistance from the remaining one.

Jackson continues to gag on the tiniest amounts. Things are getting worse, because he is too scared to try these days. Every few days he will try to swallow something, will gag and vomit and that's the end. He puts heaps of food in his mouth and chews it up, but always spits or pulls it out.

At one year old, the kid should be able to swallow a pea without spewing. I am sure Jackson's feeding would drastically improve if he had the confidence to swallow and get past the gagging. But apparently we're not a priority for help right at the moment.   #@*$&!!!

We really need help desensitising his mouth so we can start to move forward.

Getting to the point.... does anyone know of any private Speech Language Therapists in the Wellington region? Jackson needs some intensive, regular therapy and whilst we really can't afford to go private, we'll find the means to make it happen if we can find the right person to help.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any tips!

Edited for spelling.

Will PM you.

The New Zealand Speech Language Therapists' Association has a list of private practitioners, though only one is listed in the Wellington region and they don't do pediatric feeding.
