Hi all - does anyone know if the likes of southern X etc medical insurance covers fertlity specialists and the like? Im thinking ahead and have insurance for hosp and specialist but they seem silent on fertility stuff. Im more than willing to pay if need be to get appointments in quicker time (as someone suggested on another post) but if insurance covers it I will probably go that route. Im just thinking ahead for next few months......
anyone here used their insurance etc ??? Any suggestions in this area?

Only if you have been with them for more than 3 years. I had no exclusions on my plan and i was seeing a specialist who just happened to be involved with fertility stuff so we just stuck with her for claiming etc but yeh in terms of going for fertility and seeing a specialist once ur pregnant u have to be with them for 3 years.

We have Southern Cross Ultracare and it specifically states in the policy documents that it excludes anything to do with "assisted reproduction". Not sure whether that extends to consultations with fertility specialists, or just IVF as we never had to worry about it. But they do cover up to $1000 per claims year for obstetrics once you are pregnant.

With Southern Cross the obstetrics coverage goes towards a specialist if that's who your LMC is once you're pregnant, and doesn't cover visits related to potential fertility issues - although I would still suggest double checking this with them, as my memory of what I discussed with them back when I first signed up is a bit fuzzy.

ok well the people at the policy holders are fuzzy on it too....basically i think it comes down to specialists and hospitals covered unless it is IVF etc. LMC is only partially covered for the total cost.
Still not really sure at what point specialist becomes a non cover area but guess we might have to try to find out. We have had that policy in place over 5 years - hosp and specialist total one! Never had to use it for anything YET!!!
