Okay, so in the evenings little Mr 1 month old doesn't seem to want to feed off me, but when we gave him a bottle of EBM to see if he was hungry he sculled 100ml!

So am wondering if I'm producing enough and whether I should introduce formula top ups. I'm after any ideas? Feedback? Suggestions?

When I was breastfeeding, often at the end of the day my milk wasn't as much if I'd had a busy day, hadn't eaten enough, or was tired/stressed (sounds like the life of a mum of a newborn huh!). So I tried to drink lots of water, eat lots of good healthy food, and also had things like almonds, bananas and milk to increase my milk supply. All those things helped lots - as well as making sure I rested throughout the day.

Just be aware that some mums who do formula top-ups may find that as a result their milk decreases (it's a demand and supply situation, the more he feeds the more milk you'll make) or that baby prefers the bottle cos he gets milk quicker. Just a couple of things to consider as you make your decision

Try doing a top up of ebm and getting the milk first thing in th morning specially good if you can express while feeding. Multitasking is fun lol.

Another thing to try and thicken your milk so to speak at night is have a proyein shake at lunch

I would try have a good snack about 3pm and lots of water through the day. Try and get a nap in sometime in the afternoon too if you can, I never could so would make sure I chilled on the sofa with my feet up and watched a bit of telly or read book. Protein, oats, almonds are good.

If all else fails you could try a supplement like blessed thistle or fenugreek to help boost your supply.

Harry has a top up after his evening feed every night. Initially, I used to express after the early morning feed and give it to him in the evenings, but now I just give him formula. For us it has worked out really well, he settles really well in the evening and sleeps for longer.
