My doctor has referred me for a dating scan at 8 weeks and I am anxious to have it so we can make sure there's a heartbeat.
But the place she has referred me to is open 08h30 - 16h30 mon to fri and I cant get there.
My company is very difficult about me taking any time off especially with me being sick recently. I cant tell them I'm pregnant until after 12 weeks.
Is there somewhere on the North Shore I could go for the scan that is open longer hours or over weekends? I was wondering about North Shore hospital.

Why can't you tell them you are pregnant? Even if you told only the HR person or something? You are legally entitled to 10 days special leave (unpaid) during pregnancy to go to pregnancy-related appointments so if you told them they'd have to let you have the day off. Could you even go on your lunchbreak without officially taking time off?
I can't help with any alternatives sorry, but I think its terrible of them that you can't get an hour off to go and have a scan!
I didn't want anyone knowing till 12 weeks either for various reasons, and DH works in the same company. I have more flexible hours than he does, and in the end he had to tell his manager (who kept it hush hush for us) even though I hadn't told anyone, cos I was pretty sick and he had to keep leaving early to take me home and stuff. They might be surprisingly ok with it? I hope so!

There's Insight and Horizon and the NSH I think that are your options - and any scan under the 12 week on is free at any of those places.
I would probably tell an HR person - I tried not to tell anyone at my work either until after 12 weeks but I ended up having to go to the ED at 13 weeks and bad luck my contracted workplace found out before my company because of it. Got very tricky.

The company is extremely inflexible and I've had to ask for certain considerations so that I can fetch my daughter from daycare on time. I feel a bit like I've used up every bit of goodwill I have with them and I've only been there 4 months.
I dont want to tell them before 12 weeks because I'd hate to have to tell them if something went wrong. We very nearly lost my daughter around the 12 week mark so I'm a bit nervous.
I think my only real option is to sneak out at lunch and hope no one notices how long I'm away for.

Man that sucks! I hate companies like that (and feel your pain).
How far away from the scan place is your work? Usually the scans are running pretty much on time (well Insight are anyway) so you may be able to get there and back without a hitch.

I work in the CBD and the scan place is in Albany so pretty far. I'll contact the other 3 places mentioned!

There is a place in Ponsonby which could be a better option - Auckland Radiology. The only thing is it's not free - we paid $25 per scan. But they give you a DVD and you can get all of your scans saved onto it if you go back there for the rest of them.

Insight charges too but not for under 12 weeks. It's covered under the same rules as all your pregnancy related GP visits or so I understand. Probably Auckland Radiology is the same so worth checking.

I'm pretty sure we didn't get charged at the Radiology place on shore....can't remember to be honest though. MSH you will probably be waiting for ages to be honest.
It's a shame you can't tell your boss, you are legally entitled to the time off.

Auckland Radiology charge $35 (Remuera Rd) even if it's under 12 weeks.
Very nice place though and you get a DVD ;)

Thank you everybody! Infinity will take the referral and not charge me. They are close to work so I can go in my lunch break too!
