I have asked questions about breastfeeding while pregnant before. At the start of my pregnancy etc.
Well last night my nipples were a bit dry (as they get sometimes) and so i tried to hand express some milk to massage into them as thats whtat ive always done to heal my nipples. And what came out wasnt milk and was definately colostrum. When i was pregnant with henry i started leaking colostrum at 18wks but thought that i would continue making milk this time since im still feeding henry. Henry still feeds morning and night. My questions are: Will my colostrum run out or is it like breastmilk in that more demand more supply type thing? Colostrum is fine for henry right? Should i now be giving henry something else to drink (like formula or milk) as well in the morning and evening or will colostrum be enough? (he eats 3meals a day and has water when he wants it from his sippy cup). These probably sound like really daft questions but they are getting to me a bit. I honestly thought id keep making milk until maybe the last month of the pregnancy. Thanks in advance for help |

| not 100% sure but i think your body will produce both if thats what is required of it... and if henry isnt satisfied with it i'm sure he will tell you! |

| so henry could still be getting milk? hmm didnt even think about that. Our bodies are truly amazing in what they can do. I guess i shouldnt worry too much. He hasnt been complaining - just being a normal toddler with latching on then off and then on then off before settling to feed |

I think your body produces for both babies from what I've read. I read that the richness of the colostrum can cause a minor tummy upset for the feeding bub temporarily but that's about it.
You could check on LLL website - I think that's where I read the info. How old is Henry? Sorry I think your ticker birthdates are a bit funny and I can't figure it out (but that could be my preggy brain) If he's eating as well it's probably all good. Lucky you having him not wean. I was gutted when Rowan weaned. -------------

Henry has just turned one. He eats very well.
Good thinking about LLL website. I tried to ring one of the support people a while back to see if i could join a coffee group or something as i dont know anyone breastfeeding but no one ever got back to me. I am very greatful that he hasnt weaned as im not ready to give up that closeness with him yet. But i have said from the start i would feed until he self weaned which means i guess that i have to be willing to let him do that when he decides even if its a bit earlier than i would like |

It is also what i thought to be true - keep feeding as usual until baby is born and then for the first wee bit make sure that little baby feeds first and most so they get as much colostrum as possible before my milk comes in. I dont think henry will feed when im in hospital anyway - unless he decides he would like a feed when he comes with dh to visit me. He isnt too worried if he misses a feed atm - like if he stays with grandma or something and im not there for a feed so im thinking he wont miss it when im in hospital but may decide hed like some if he sees baby feeding |

Angel4, I cant believe Henry has tuned one as I remember when you first got pregnant and he was only 8 months...scary how time is ticking by!
