So wee Alex is now two weeks old and tomorrow we are venturing out for the first time on our own to a parenting course - and I'm terrified.

What do I need to take (other than the obvious nappies etc) and what should I take for him to sleep in - it goes for two hours is his capsule okay or should I take a stroller too?

Any tips would be gratefully appreciated. It'd be far too easy to stay at home but I guess we have to venture out at some stage!

my suggestion is to pack the night before - its a good habit to get into now. you need nappies, clothes, whatever you would use at home normally... bottles if you use those. because its going to be 2 hours then the capsule may not be suitable... so long s the stroller lies flat that should be ok... or if you use a sling that would be good.

The capsule thing depends on what capsule, some of them have them almost sitting in which case I wouldn't really leave a bub to sleep 2 hrs in or some are really laid back in which case I would. But that's just my preference.

I used to take a nice thin piece of cotton material to drape overtop to make it dark and cosy for Daniel to sleep under but again that was just me.

I went to a Baby & you course recently so would imagine that this would be similar to what you are going to.

If you feel comfortable having bubs in the capsule then take that, otherwise having bubs in a pram works too. When I did the course we all pretty much ended the session holding our bubs anyways.

Make sure you've got nappies etc as Bizzy said, the first time I headed out I had way too much stuff, but better to take too much than not enough!!!

Thanks for the advice. I thought bringing him home was daunting but this is scarier!

It gets easier each time

Take cloths to wipe any spills, complete change of clothes (just in case), nappies, wipes, a blanket or similar in case you lie him on the floor to "play" a couple of wraps and anything else you use at home (like a dummy or bottles)

It should be a breeze, they travel quite easily at that age
