sorry if too much info but if we can ask here where can we ask right ???

I am 8 days post partum and the stitches are healing well with no sign of infection.

However today i have been feeling tender in the labia and have a lot of pressure in the pubic bone.

If you have had an episiotomy id love to know how you healed and how long it took to feel "normal" again.

When did you get out for walks and all pain stop ??

Many thanks

I had an episiotomy and a 2nd degree internal tear, I found that on the days that I did more I had more pain and more aching. I took until about week 4 for the pain to be gone completely but after 2 weeks I was out and about with the kids going on walks, to playgroup, coffee group etc, I just found that I would sometimes pay for it in the afternoon/evening.

I tore and day 6-9 were the most painful for me- unbearable infact. I couldn't sit to even BF on one of those days.
Last weekend all felt better so I started walking for about 20minutes a day for the last 5 days but I end up in so much pain afterwards stll...so I have decided to stop walking for now.

I found from about day 5- 14 were the worst for me.

I also didnt heal or feel back to myself until 4 months

DP and I only resumed having sex at 4 months and its only just stopped hurting now and DD is 7 months

Salt baths are great. Also a support ring to sit on

I think my stitches were feeling comfortable after 2 weeks, completely pain free by 4 weeks and felt normal again at around 8 weeks.

A frozen sanitary pad (soaked in water and put in the freezer) can be a good pain reliever.

Sex still hurts here I think that was more to do with the internal tear than the episiotomy though, dont' want to scare you bun_in_the_oven.

You should really change your name to bun_out_the_oven now

Are you using hypercal gel? I found that great to put on a pad, it helps with healing and feels good if you keep it in the fridge! I was cut inside and out and from front to back and some and I could barely sit for the first week, sat on pillows all the second week and then felt good once i hit 14days. With just a ache if I did too much or went for a walk, sex stopped hurting at 6 weeks, only a little bit tender on my scar every now and then. My mw said thats pretty standard healing time....cuppatea have you had yours checked again I thought the pain would've gone for you by now, my internal (cut not tear though) stopped hurting at about 5 weeks?

Just listen to your body bun in the oven try not to over do it

Yeah I had the doc check it when I had my IUD fitted at 10 weeks postpartum and said it would just be because of the scar tissue and should get better with time, and it's has improved, it's still not great though

Mine was a bit different in that I tore the stiches that were holding the episiotomy together 15 days post partum leaping out of bed in the middle of the night to my screaming baby. It had been so sore I could hardly walk before I tore it though, and it hurt to sit down. After I tore it I had to be cut and restiched at 13 weeks post partum but was only sore for 3 days after that and things healed after being restiched. Sex was a bit uncomfortable the first couple of times but is fine now.

Forgot to add I used Traumeal to help healing after I was recut and stiched at 13 weeks. Its a homeopathic cream made out of arnica and other healing herbs and I got it at the chemist.

I was pretty lucky I think as it didnt take too long to heal with not much pain, took arnica and also put some on a pad.

I used a pump bottle with salt to wash down there after going to the toilet. It also felt nice to blowdry the wound on a cool setting. TMI I know but it worked!

I highly recommend arnica, zinc and Vit C for healing. I took it last time and was healed in about a week and was back to normal at 6 weeks with no problems.
