I phoned plunket line this morning, the lady couldnt find me on the system and stated rather rudely 'well you cant have phoned us before' um.....yes I have!!
After getting all my details she then asked why I was phoning, I started to explain then she interupted and said she would have to get a nurse to phone me back as she couldnt help (it was a question about night waking nothing overly hard I would have thought) That was over an hour ago and no call back, is this the norm now?

Agreed, NzPiper! I never bother with Plunketline anymore. I ask on here for non-helath related things and often just ring the nurse at my GP's or healthline for medical advice.

i have decided im not bothering with them anymore either. I rung them the other day for a few questions re breastfeeding - henry was doing funny things during his feed. And i had to wait 4hours!!!! for them to ring back. And then the nurse just went on about how breastfeeding during pregnancy is safe and what will happen to my milk when new baby arrives (duh i know all that already) she also read from the internet, from sites that i had already looked up on my own. No help what so ever.

Yeah I have had that before too - that it sounds like who you are talking to is the actual plunket nurse but it turns out to be just someone answering the phone....so then you have to repeat it when they ring back....

Did you ring PlunketLine or the Wellchild one?
I don't ring PlunketLine as a matter of principle (have had bad experiences with Plunket IRL).

Wow after reading this I will never ring Plunket Line, I find Ohbaby is the best for any question and you always get answers.

Is this the plunket line that feeds through from the healthline number? Because they used to be awesome!

I'm so sad to hear they've gone so far down hill if it is. I guess the H1N1 thing has overstretched them.

No, there are 2, hence my original question!

Plunketline is separate and was funded by National after the election.

Wellchild is attached to Healthline.

Most of the time the call is answered by a call centre service where they look you up, confirm your contact details, and ask what you are calling about. They enter it and then a nurse calls you back. I guess its like a Triage system, and if it was an emergency / serious thing they would a)get back to you sooner b)refer you onto the appropriate service.

I have mixed reviews about Plunket Line, I often find that they dont actually give any useful advise at all, that its really just common sense and generally what I have been doing anyway.

yep it was the actual Plunket line, they rang me back at 11.15, and like simsam basically told me what I already knew but guess I just needed to be told it by someone else if that makes sense! The lady was really lovely.

they were the ones who kindly told me that my child was underfed! based purely on a description of his poo.

pfft, I just ring my GP's nurse now.

I've rang twice, once about a carseat question, and once about a disappearing tooth, (Hollie bit the rusk and there was blood for Africa ), and they have been really good!
....Maybe I've been ringing a different one, they didn't take my details
