I had my 20 week scan last week. I was 19wk and 2 days.
The scan lady said the baby is measuring 1 week ahead so at 20wk 2days.

Has anyone had this?
Does it mean i'll have a big baby?
I don't see my midwife for another 5 weeks, i've only seen her once so far at 17 weeks and was measuring fine then.

I am measuring big too- although it wasn't a scan it was my MW that did the measuring, so she wouldn't have been able to measure the baby itself.

She said that my uterus is 2 weeks ahead of itself but that sometimes this happens in preparation for the baby to then catch up and grow into it.

All the measurements are averages based on your due date which isn't even precise so I wouldn't stress about it at the moment- not much you can do about it anyway.

PS I have a friend who was small to average size and she had a 10lb baby.

Remember that any measurements taken are an estimate only, and have room for error....my twins have been consistently measuring ahead since day one. The measurements vary significantly, depending on how bubs is lying among other things - so it could just be that bubs was lying a particular way. Don't panic though, a week ahead isn't toooo bad!! At my 20w scan, both girls were measuring around 22w, at the 24w scan, they were measuring 26w3d...then at my 29w scan they were measuring 30w1d...just as an indication of how it can vary!!

Also, a bubs having long legs can skew the measurements as well - because they measure the thigh bone as well as the tummy and head circumference. They are, at best, a best guess.

Yeah I measured small and they were positive he'd be about 6 pounds (that was from a scan a week before he was born) and he was a solid 9 and a half pounds so its really a guesstimate!

totally just estimation based on averages and not the actual fat the baby is carrying, with 1 of mine the estimated him to be 6lb5oz and he was born 2 days later at 10lb4oz, then on the flipside they told us our daughter was 9lb ish but was born 2 weeks after that at 7lb3oz, Dont worry to much.

They are definitely just guess-timates. I was measuring in at 3-4 weeks ahead of my dates and went for two additional scans while pregnant and was told my baby was in the 97th percentile and would likely weigh in at around 10pds.

He arrived exactly on his due date and weighed a nice manageable 7pd 11oz so they were completely wrong.

No idea why they thought he was going to be so big but it just goes to show that there is a huge margin for error!
