My 5month has been waking to feed more at night for the last few months as she's not having such big feeds during the day. She gets distracted in the day alot, pulling off to smile at me, look at the wall (?!) etc. I don't mind so much as I think it's a pretty common phase they go through BUT I would love to know that this stage doesn't last forever!
Would love to hear from anyone who's been through this - especially if you can tell me it does end!!!!! |

Not for me it doesn't, sorry, especially if someone is talking to me or something loud comes on the tv.

Issy went through that phase .. try putting on a pendant of some sort (they make feeding necklaces, these days) ..

It hurts like hell when they don't let go JoJames! B**gger that it may not end soon...can I ask, does James wake up any extra still at night for feeds or does he still manage to get it all during the day despite still being distracted?
Oh, great idea about wearing a pendant lilfatty! Will try and find something I can use, thanks forthe tip |

He will wake if he hasn't fed well, but that is solids as well, I just try to find a quiet place, if he is having a shocker and try to force him to settle and feed for longer than 1 minute, and doing it juts before a nap means they tend to be a lot more settled and not so hyped up. ------------- http://www.alterna-tickers.com">

My friend used to say that God made them gorgeous while they sleep so we can fall in love with them again,
James likes to put his hand in my mouth too. I've heard of some people having to find a dark room to feed their baby in. I just find that I have to hold off until he is really hungry otherwise he will spend the whole day snacking. ------------- http://www.alterna-tickers.com">

Ive been going through that since about 4 1/2 months now too.
I started solids 2 weeks ago and it got better, on Monday i started dinner feed as well as lunch feed and DD is sleeping through the night again. Since being on solids i find her feeds are getting longer again. And she is starting to want BF for comfort again too  -------------

I've been wondering if things will change once we start solids, sounds like that's working really well for you TaylahsMummy. Bet that extra sleep is nice! I think we'll be trying solids too in a few weeks so HOPEFULLY that works for us also...sadly I think I will miss our night feedings after awhile

Hi we had the distracted feeding here too starting at around 4 1/2 months. Brooke looked at things moving around, the TV, the fireplace, anyone talking etc. Then in addition to that she grew two teeth and started biting me - ouch! I tried lots of things but in the end Brooke was just snacking and mucking around - she was more interested in the world around her. We still do one breastfeed in the morning (she is most relaxed then) and this keeps the boobs going so that I can express. I am now feeding 1/2 formula 1/2 breastmilk. I find that Brooke drinks this quickly with little fuss - she is happy because she can drink while checking out the world around her. At first I was a bit emotional about decreasing the breastfeeding..... but a few painful nips later I was reassured I was making the right decision. Apparently babies do mature a little later, and develop enough concentration to just get down to the task and breastfeed, but everyone I know of seems to run into these same probs at the same stage. I was very determined to BF for as long as possible, so think I did pretty well. PS - Introducing solids didn't make any difference to the breastfeeding. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
