I've been having severe hyperemisis with this pregnancy. Been in hospital twice now and off work for two weeks. I've never felt so ill in all my life.
We'd been trying for 7 months to get pregnant and I was ecstatic when I got my BFP. 2 days after that the MS started and it's gone downhill from there. I have had times when I wished for a miscarriage or that I hadn't got pregnant at all. 
Normally I'm the cluckiest person on the planet, but when I went and saw a friends newborn a couple of weeks ago I just felt empty. And then I started thinking about how much hard work a newborn is and started dreading the fact that I'm going to have to do it all again. Now that I'm out of hospital and been rehydrated I'm feeling a bit better about things. I'm on a cocktail of anti-emetics so hopefully that will make things better - still nauseous but able to keep things down. Anyway, I'm just wondering with others who have gone through hyperemesis if you had feelings like I have and if you got over them. I worry that I might feel negative towards this baby through pregnancy and after it's birth. Hey hun, you are not a horrible person! Hyperemesis is awful, it is all-consuming and totally draining so it's hardly surprising you're finding it hard to be enthusiastic about the pregnancy.
I can relate to wishing for a miscarriage, with lil miss I started spotting at 8 weeks and felt like the worst person in the world because part of me wanted to miscarry just so I could feel normal again. Then when I started spotting again at 12 weeks and thought I was going to miscarry I was so angry that I had been thru all those weeks of being sick for nothing. It had no impact on my bonding with her after the birth tho, by the end of the pregnancy I was feeling more positive about it even tho I was still throwing up every day, and as soon as I saw her I fell in love. There's a great website www.hyperemesis.org that has heaps of info and support, and they have forums where women who have or have had hyperemesis can share advice, tips for coping etc. More big hugs, I hope it passes quickly for you and doesn't last the whole pregnancy  . I have to say Im kind of in the same boat, I had it bad with bailey, not so much aidan but this time round Ive had it bad, I know that with bailey it lasted till the end of second trimester so I hope that once I start feeling t his bub kick it will pass
I agree with Emma, once you have baby in your arms you wont feel like this |

Hi Sue - you are definitely not alone. I've been on Zofran since I discovered it about a month and a half ago. It's been my absolute life saver and the only reason I can function like even half a normal person.
I don't know that I have wished to miscarry but I definitely felt that if I had miscarried it would have been really hard to want to be pregant again even though like you I am incredibly clucky and couldn't wait to have children. Like Emma, I threw up pretty much every day of my first pregnancy but by the end I was ready to meet the little critter who'd caused so much havoc - and I forgot about the sickness almost as soon as I met him. And, I'd obviously fogotten how crappy it was because I've done it again! Fingers crossed that you're not this sick all the way through and just know that there are others on here that you can talk to when you need too. Hang in there - you will get through it (I'm on a serious count down till this one comes out!). |

Thanks for your replies. It does make me feel a bit better knowing there are other people out there that understand. I know I don't want to have a miscarriage, and I would never forgive myself if it did happen now cos I'd feel I'd prompted it by thinking it, IYKWIM.
I did have hyperemisis with Keiran, but not as bad as this time. I've been put on Ondansetron, Maxalon and Cyclizine. I still feel a bit nauseous but have managed to keep everything down today  ------------- Sue See my blog www.gojandal.com/wubboo http://lilypie.com">

Ondansetron = zofran, it was the only one that made much difference for me. I took the other two as well, but I hated the cyclazine, esp when I was in hospital and had to have it via IV coz it stung like a bugger going in and made me feel really spacey. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Yay for keeping everything down today. Hopefully it's the start of many days. I certainly have felt much better since I've been able to eat more than just popcorn lol.
You know the thing I've always found funny is that I spend most of the time wishing for the nausea and vomitting to go and then when I have a good few hours DH and I get totally paranoid that something is wrong! Zofran is the king of these drugs for me. Maxalon and cyclizine barely even touched the sides. |

Erin, so sorry you're going through this. I've always had bad MS with my pregnancies, and I've had those thoughts like you = wished I hadn't got pg, or that I'd miscarry. When you feel that bad all you want is for it to go away!! A friend of mine was talking about her sister who gets severely sick with MS (like you) and has many a hospital trip to get rehydrated, and friend's sister was saying one day, when she managed to talk, that if she could reach her bedroom window (which was on the 3rd floor of their house) she would jump out of it. That's how bad and how sick she was!! So I think it's only natural to think bad thoughts when you're feeling soo ill. I'm trying my hardest at the moment to think about the end result - that's the only reason why I agreed to get pg - cos the pregnancy bit sucks! but the end result is soo worth it! Have you have any scans and see the baby yet? I think that helps to make you feel more positive about the pregnancy when you have seen bubs.

I had it real bad with my first, and since then it's been gradually less each pg. Anyways, loved Lou to bits the moment I saw her face. Made all the hospitalisations, drips and quick trips to the bathroom worthwhile. Any residual nausea left as soon as the contractions started too, which is a bonus I hope you have. Take care, do things slowly if you can (much harder with your wee one around) and especially take any help your family/friends can give you.
