Subject: Itti Bitti Inserts - How many?

MIL was kind enough to take up nappy shopping and bought us 4 Itti-Bitti's and 10 extra inserts! Sounded like a good idea at the time but now I wonder if we should have maybe gotten more actual nappies and less inserts... what do other people use? We haven't washed or even really looked through the bag since we took it out of the shop so I'm sure we could go back and exchange if we decided to...

Personally, I'd get more nappies and less inserts. I don't use boosters at all but everytime the inserts need changing, so does the outer shell.

I have one extra set of inserts & if my precious child didn't poo every nappy then it would work well. I would ideally like to have one extra insert per nappy.

They say to air the outer between changes so providing bubs doesn't poo you can rotate a couple of outers with the inserts or even wash & quickly dry the outers with that many inserts.

We have extra inserts which works a treat - one extra per nappy works really well - just need to remember how many times the cover has been used.

Im assuming you mean the snap in inserts rather than the little booster ones?

Yeah we have the snap-in-ones - the woman at the shop told us that you could use the outer 3-4 times (changing the snap-in-inserts each time but reusing the outer) so we thought that 4 outers + 10 extra inserts was a good idea... but sounds like you don't really get to use the outer again??

Thought we could take some back - exchange maybe 5 of the inserts for 2 outers (which come with inserts anyway). What would other people do?? The cost of one snap-in-insert set is $14ish and an outer+inserts is $33...

You can definitely reuse the outer.  We didn't have snap ins with Michaela but used old style flats folded into rectangles inside an overnap so it was the same concept.  As long as the outer doesn't get any wees or poos leaked onto it all you need to do is put it aside to air after you change the nappy while you use a different cover for that change so you may only use 2-3 covers per day but it depends on your childs motions.

I sounds like it would work well except for the fact that ittis are quite trim so are a lot more likely to get wees or poos on the outer. I'd take back maybe half to swap for nappies and keep the rest.

I bought an extra snap in insert, and have only used it when one lot wasn't dry (outer dry faster than inserts). I would definitely take some back and exchange for full nappies.

There is no way we could ever use the outers again...unless its one of those "just put the nappy on and now we've pooed" moments...but that only works for solid poos. James wets through his ittis to the outer in under 2 hours.

If you are wanting to reuse covers etc, I personally would go for prefolds and covers etc.
