At work they are having drinks and i dont want them to know that we are TTC.

how do i get around not drinking? usually if DH is around we will both have a wine and we keep switching drinks all the time so that it looks like i am drinking too but infact hes drinking double.

DH wont be there and its only going to be a small group.

im not really all that comfortable saying that its the antibotics or anything like that, because im still on the 90day trail and i feel like they think im sick all the time.

any ideas would be a great help, thanks in advance

Could say you were driving. Or if someone asks just say you don't feel like a drink.

Say you have a hangover and can't face alcohol! IMO there is no issue with drinking while TTC anyway but I know some people would rather not.

I don't have an issue with drinking while TTC either but perhaps you could just have a wine spritzer - a quarter of a wine glass of wine and the rest soda water.

Or just buy your own drinks and get lime and soda and tell people its vodka, lime and soda if they ask.

May be your best option if you don't want to use the AB's line.

I often use to say that I was still slightly hung over from the night before but that is also probably not a good look for a new job.

yeah, I would just say you are driving.

Or go to the bar yourself and order non-alcoholic drinks like juice or lemonade or coke and if anyone asks just say you've got vodka and orange or rum and coke.

say your doing a detox at the mo and you don't want to compromise the results by having a drink.
Why does it make such a difference if your drinking or not. If they are good work mates they should respect the fact you don't feel like drinking.
If they ask just say you want to be sober so you can enjoy all the funny and embarassing stuff they will do while drunk.

yep, I second saying you are driving. Also, I've found (work doesn't know I'm pg yet) if you start by shouting everyone, and/or show up a bit late so they are all a bit pissed already, they are much less observant and you may not even get any questions at all.
I've had a few people say "oh, one drink won't hurt when you are driving" so I just say, well, last time I tried that, I parked the car in the side of the house " (which is true, but actually because I was so tired, not cos I was drunk). They either drop it, or ask how I managed to do such a thing, and either way the pressure is off.

Good luck, its especially awkward when TTC I think.

Yeah I would just say the driving thing too, or that I didn't feel like drinking (why should everyone want to drink anyway, something wrong with NZ culture if it is expected for you to drink).
Or I would just make up an excuse why I couldn't go haha.

I'd go with the detox - but then you'll have to be eating well at the same time and not eating all the chips and dip!

Or get a drink and hold it for a bit then tip half down the loo and then leave the glass somewhere and get a non-alcoholic drink. Kinda hard work (what I did when I was first pregnant) but it works. Or my other trick if they have KGBs, tip it down the loo and fill it with water. Again, extreme but depends if you prefer to look like you're drinking or not.

OR if it's a new work and there's only beer and wine just say you only drink spirits as don't like beer or wine and then if you're at a bar it's easy to do as the others suggested and get an OJ or lemonade (make sure it's in a short glass) and pretend there's vodka in it.

I agree with Nat, what's wrong with saying you don't want a drink? I'm not ttc or anything but I often say this and people get over it and accept it

Jem I completely sympathise with you. I have told my two bosses but no-one else at work and so far I have got out of drinking on 3 occassions in 2 weeks by saying I am on antibiotics. It is really hard work! I have another function on Friday, which is drinks & nibbles sitting down with about 10 close people I work with - well I think I will be on antibiotics again, what's another week!

Everyone has asked why I am on them and I have come back with 'oh just some girl stuff' that really shuts them up, even the girls! They must be wondering what on earth is wrong with me lol!

After this Friday I really need to think of another excuse for I think I have a week break to think of something

Sorry haven't been much help, just wanted you to know that I know it is hard and you just need to find an excuse you are comfortable with. I have learnt that even if people suspect something is up they will never actually say it.

Nat - I know it is wrong of NZ culture to think it is wierd not to drink but most people I talk to seem to! Even at a bar I asked for a soft drink and the barman said, 'oh so no vodka in there?' and this is reputable bar in the city

I never worried too much about the odd drink when i was TTC. In the early weeks though, my favourite trick was to get an empty beer bottle, rinse it out and fill it with ginger beer or a soft drink of some sort - people will never know the difference!

I had a party to go to over the weekend, so had to tell my 2 BFFs that I am UTD even though its very early days. I drank my drinks out of a cocktail glass so no one else would be suspicious. You dont have to say your not drinking, let them assume what they want.

I hear you- I am a cop so we will often have a drink afrer a drink. Only for like 30 minutes or so and everyone is responsible - But I have Campbells V8 vege juice and say to the guys I am driving (home is 30 minutes from the station). It works.

But on the other hand there are blitzes at the moment to catch drink drivers. Could say you are not in the mood for a drink, being the sober driver, you know there are police drink driving blitzes on, or just de-toxing etc.
