I apologise if this has been already posted somewhere else in the forums but ...

Can anyone recommend a great midwife in Hamilton? Preferably someone on the Auckland side of Hamilton City rather than Cambridge side :-)

I'm nearly 7 weeks pregnant and been told I should be looking for a midwife already I'm due mid January 2010.

Thanking you in advance!

I am with Rachel Cassie from the Midwife Shoppe at 5XRoads.   She is really lovely and as it happens, she was a GP for 15 years and has been a midwife for 9 years, so I really feel like I'm in safe hands with her.

I would love to have my baby at waterford and was planning on having my last baby there, but he turned out to be breech so I had to have an elective c-section and unfortunately the only place I will ever be allowed to have babies now is in hospital.    I can still have a natural birth (hopefully) but will need monitoring!

Waterford is so lovely, I went and had a tour when I was pregnant last time!

I had Michele Lord from the Midwife Shoppe at 5 x roads for both my girls and she is just excellent....would totally recommend her...

She has access to the hospital, waterford and riverridge

You will want to book a midwife pretty quickly...lots take time off over the xmas, new year period.

All the best for your pregnancy

I have heard really good things about all the midwifes at the Midwife Shoppe actually and while at my first appointment I saw on my midwifes photoboard a picture of my cousins two children and when I asked my cousin she said she was really lovely.

My midwife last time was Shelley Sjaarda. I didn't get to know her very well as I swapped to her at 28 weeks, but boy was she thorough!   Not one week for the last 10 weeks did I not have a blood test for borderline high blood pressure. I was like a pin cushion!   She is a midwife and a registered nurse at Waterford.

I used Colleen van der Laan who was wonderful! I ended up with her back up mid-wife Shelley Sjaarda (sp?) at my daughters birth and she was great too.

Colleen and Shelley both have access agreements with Waterford/River Ridge/Hospital and I gave birth to both kiddies at Waterford. I found it a really good environment - had lots of space to do whatever I needed to. I've heard really good things about River Ridge too.

Good luck

Oh cool!   My backup midwife was Colleen, she was lovely and really made me feel at ease. She wasn't at the birth but came to visit me quite a few times afterwards while I was in hospital and really helped me get started with the basics (being a first time mum).

We also had Michele with our DS 1, but her backup Jackie Reetz attended the birth as it was Michele's weekend off. That being said I (we - DH and I) would and have recommened either of these ladies - and yes we're using Michele again this time around too! (in fact DH told Michele at her first visit to me after delivery that she was already booked for our next baby
