Is it possible for a 4 month old baby to have shingles?? He hasn't had chicken pox so I am confused, but the doc said he thinks it is shingles and I googled the rash and it matches shingles. Is there something else that has a similar rash to shingles?
He hasn't been sick, he was a bit more grumpy than normal over the last couple of weeks I put it down to teething...

Here is a pic that I found online which is identical to my baby's rash

Where abouts does he have it? In the normal shingles places? Ie around the rib cage?

Has the Dr given you anything for it? So are they clustered more than individual spots? I think Chicken pox are more individual spots.

I thought that Shingles was a stress related illness?

No he hasn't given anything for it, he did take a swab of it but those test results always take ages so I thought I'd do some digging myself to see if anyone knew anything. From what I read online shingles is a stress related illness, I don't know what a 4 month old baby has to be stressed about lol maybe when I left him with my mum for an hour he thought I'd abandoned him lol

oh and yes they are clustered, not individual spots as such. Today there are more, it is spreading and the skin around them is very red almost as if its inflamed, my poor little guy!

Hi,

It is IMPOSSIBLE for your baby to get shingles without having had the chickenpox FIRST. You can get chickenpox from shingles if you haven't had them but you CAN'T get shingles from being exposed to shingles. Make sense?

I'd be looking for another opinion. I agree though that it doesn't look like chickenpox either. Shingles is a stress related illness, it is the CP virus re-emerging during a period of stress; my mum and 2 aunts have had it and it's not fun so they say. How is he otherwise? It looks like something I have seen before, but for the life of me I can't remember what. LOL

Is it possible that it's chickenpox but just presenting unusually? Lil miss had chickenpox at 5 mths and she got really, really sick with it and some of her spots looked like clusters coz they were spots on top of spots on top of spots.

Oh and I have no idea who lil miss caught the pox from as no one we knew had it at that time so it must have been a random exposure somewhere.
