Man, the things we ask/confess to on here .....

Right , so this last trimester Ive occasionally had that pressing down on my pelvis feeling, like a lot of women get, so I haven't been too worried .
However, the past couple of days its not occasionally , its all the time, along with a very sore back , the sorest Ive had all pregnancy .
Then today , or rather just before , I got a mirror and erm, had a look down there (or is it up ) and I can see .......a lot , like even with out widening my legs much , its quite a bit, certainly more than im used to seeing when I check out my vagina (which isn't THAT often btw) and it looks like its sort of bulging .....
is this normal ? anyone else had this in their pregnancy ?

erm, the inside of my vagina is bulging ,eg its near the *blush * vaginal lips .
The vaginal opening is quite wide, and at the risk of sounding over dramatic, the only time ive ever seen it looking like that , was when I was in labour with C .
However, im not getting contractions or anything, just this dull back ache

If you are really worried go in. But I wont be that worried with just the bulging.

The hormone Relaxin is just doing what it needs to do. Relaxing everything. Plus you have increase bloodflow, baby pushing down even more. Take all this and you equal what you are having. Didnt have it last time and not yet this time but my gynae did warn me on this last time around.

But if you are concern contact your midwife.

Im not too worried about the bulging, but the wideness of the vaginal opening , however for all I know that could be quite common in the last few weeks of pregnancy , especially with the second .

Im reluctant to call my mw unless I get more signs something is wrong , eg contractions , nausea , leaking etc, shes one of those " thats perfectly normal " types who says this upon hearing the symptoms , not seeing them

I have no idea, like you I don't check my vagina regularly - I didn't even look at it while in labour last time.  I'm gonna go and have a look now though Maybe you could post a pic and we can compare (lol, just kidding)

I'd call the midwife to satiate my curiosity.

I've noticed this in the first couple of weeks after birth but not before. It all came right by itself so I think it probably is a relaxin thing. Freaked me out though (if you search on here from ages back, you'll see that after I had Kryssi I thought I was having a prolapse and that was sure a funny topic!!)

I hope you appreciate the things I do for you Kelly

Firstly the whole outer area is extremely swollen, I'm surprised I don't get major camel toe.  The inner part is bulging slightly but I had to squat or manually part the lips to see it.  Size wise I think the opening is a bit bigger than usual but I couldn't be 100% sure and it's definitely not a lot bigger.

I have been feeling a lot of pressure on the front of my pelvic area since this morning so am wondering if baby is now engaged which could contribute to the way downstairs looks.

p.s. I'm so pleased DH isn't home at night to watch me checking my bits out in the mirror.... although I am now considering asking his opinion when he gets home since he is more familiar with that area than I am.

There's just something about a TMI thread that *makes* you look. At the thread, I mean. And I never looked down there before the birth, and especially not after - don't think it will ever get back to normal.

And now I will beat a hasty retreat.

I am glad I am not the only one!
I don't often have a look but got thrush about 6wks ago so had a look. I am quite swollen and it did look a bit 'bulgy' down there. I put the swollen-ness down to being on my feet almost all day running around after a toddler. I didn't have it last time since I had an office job and sat on my backside almost all day

OK, so I wasn't going to post but thought I could get brave!

I asked my MW about the same thing in my last few weeks of pregnancy - bulging was the same word I used. Anyway, she had a look and decided that it looked "normal" to her - although DH and I agreed that it wasn't normal for me...

We put it down to preparing for birth (I thought it was some kind of vaginal prolapse) - it still isn't right now, but I haven't really checked and DH hasn't had much chance to get near yet...

LMAO Jo!! what a good friend you are to do that for Kelly! and im sorry but i had to laugh at the camel toe thing!!!

I did read somewhere that it does these things in later preg to prepare and my MW mentioned something along those lines last week and said it was bcos baby had dropped right down now.

Big purple twinkies I think that Jenny McCarthy called them LMAO I never looked with the first & was horrified with the second!

Bel, I was the same, I think that it took a bit for all the swelling to go?

awww Jo, thankyou ,you are a good friend , checking out your woowoo for me ,in comparison I can see right up there without squatting much or pulling the lips apart , and its definetly noticeably bigger

I imagine my mw will say that its normal unless its accompanied by cramps etc , still........it is tempting to say to her "so I was checking out my vagina in the mirror, and then my friends checked theres out ...." haha!

Kelly you always make me laugh!

I'd say its the baby being engaged combined with the extra blood flow that you will have going on. The engaged thing or baby changing position will affect your back
