So, what do I do next? What's a norm routine for 8/9/10 month olds?
My 8mnth old (6mnth & 3wk adjusted age but seem to act their real age) boys have 4 x 220mls milk at 8am,11.30am, starting to be 4/4.30pm & 6/6.30pm, with solids at all except the afternoon feed. Especially if I go out my boys can go from their lunch feed (11.30) to 4.30pm for their next feed happily. It's just getting closer & closer to their night feed (6/6.30pm) but I don't want to move their night feed back latter. What should I be working towards, i.e. should I start dropping the quantity of milk in the afternoon feed to slowly get to 3 milk/solid feeds? I could wake them earlier (i.e.3pm) to have their afternoon feed but if they want to sleep I'm not keen on waking them. Hope this all makes sense? Hey hun, Callum isn't quite at the same stage as your boys yet  But the last wee girl I looked after, when she was their age was having a wee snack at her approx 3pm feed and less and less milk. She had water in a sippy cup as well. It was usually as soon as she woke from her midday nap, some times later if she woke sooner IYKWIM.
Don't know that that really helps you ... although her older brother was doing similar times to your boys (tho he was a lot older, his nap time was later in the day). He would just have a snack at 3.30ish when he woke up and then tea at 5.30/6pm. ------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

My boy has feeds at 7.30 12.30 and 5 he only has a small snack in the afternoon. He has a final milk feed at 6.15 before bed his later dinner time doen't seem to affect his last feed but then he likes his food. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

we're just dropping to 3 milk feeds now (fingers crossed!)....but Natalie has milk before breakkie at 7-8am, then milk after lunch at 12.30. she has a small snack at around 3-4pm to tide her over till dinner at 5-5.30, then a bedtime (6.30-7pm) milk feed. I also offer water frequently during the day incase she's thirsty. Nat also eats heaps though - about 1 to 2 cups per meal. -------------

We do 4 milk feeds - 7am, 10.30, 1, 7ish. Daniel has breakfast, lunch, snack in the pm and tea. He's still having 3 sleeps a day. We only tend to do water in the afternoon, but I really need to do more of this. He's lazy drinking out of the sippy cup so we use the bottle most of the time. Might have to send the sippy cup to daycare and Steph can perseude him to drink from it! ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

Felicity: I've been offering water after their solids for a month of so now and only this week have they got the hang of actually sipping from it and reaching out to drink from it rather than it pouring down their tops. Perseverance pays off! Had issues after their feed yesterday, they woke at 4.30pm for their milk feed then i tried to put them down at 5pm for a short last nap but they refused. So they were awake 4.30-7pm (they only last 1 1/2hrs awake norm) and got really tired/grizly while feeding dinner. It's all going to get screwed anyway I suppose when we head off to the UK soon. Q: Did you purposly drop their afternoon feed or were your bubs just not very hungry? It's just my boys still down 220mls both afternoon & dinner even though it was only a 2hr gap yesterday. hmmmm, I think this may require a call to plunket as I don't want to drop their milk feed if they still require it. ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

Plunket update:
Just spoke to Plunket and she said (in a nutshell) to wake them up earlier for their afternoon tea/milk feed. She also said to start solids before milk (which I think I'll start in UK) as well as giving them finger food just to add to the fun of it all. I feel all I do is feed them these days so finger food will just add extra time - oh well has to start sometime, again I think I'll start this in the UK when I have some helpers to contain the mess a bit .
She ALSO calculated that the boys should be still having 1080mls a day = 270ml bottles x 4 feeds - yee right, like I can get that much into my boys. I wonder how many 9kg bubs are having that amount of milk? Anyway, I'm sure the boys will be fine being woken early and that way they'll get a proper afternoon sleep again. So much for my nice 3 1/2hr 'break' I was getting! ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

yikes on the 1080mL! I was working on 600mL fluids a day, and I don't think Natalie would even make that 
The 1080mL might include fluids from water and in their solid food though? still way over what most babies I know of are having... -------------

Yeh! She was an interesting one to talk to because later she said when they get to 9months then they should be having 600mls so that's a mighty big change - halfing their milk intake in a month. She did say that it did include all liquid, maybe I should start giving them weetbix with formula for brekkie or something. They currently have 880mls + 20mls max of water but I'm happy with what their having to stick Plunket!

Joel has 3 bottles of 220mls a day 9sometimes if it seems he hasn't had much to eat at dinner I offer 260mls but he doesn't normally take it all). Sometimes I will offer hima small bottle at 3pm of 120mls but not very often now. I make up his porridge in the morning with formula and I also make him custard/semolina as well. He does play with his sippy cup and does drink some after every meal but most of it gets spat down his front. Joel is a lot heavier than the boys (10.8kgs this week!) He fed himself the whole meal, hes pretty good and doesn't squish it anymore andnone goes on the floor either. -------------

Jamie has 120mls after his three meals and 180mls before bed. Which is less than 600ml a day, he is only a small baby 8kgs at his 9month check. I tried him on weetbix but it seemed to upset his tummy and when I talked to my plunket nurse she said he was too young to digest it so I went to mixing fruit, baby muesli and formula and he really liked that. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
