Now that I've got your attention. My DS seems to be straining a lot these days. He cries a bit right after he's been latched on and feeding fine. It seems that maybe the feeding pushes things along down there but he screams as if he is in a lot of pain. I have to calm him down (bounce him and burp him too) before I can give him the other boob. He used to be a poop every 2-3 days baby but then he went a week without going. I was a bit concerned so I mentioned it when he had his imms and the Dr. prescribed a glycerin suppository. It worked within minutes! He then went 4 days without anything and it seemed like he really wanted to go. All the while he has this reddened area around his butt hole. It doesn't have any bumps..just a redder ring around the outside of it. I'm planning on taking him to the Dr. but if anyone else's child had any this..maybe you could shed some light on what you did to cure it. I hate to see him in such pain! oh, fyi he is using cloth diapers but I use a microfleece liner to keep him dry and give his booty air time between changes (usually). ------------- Denise http://lilypie.com">

if he is fully breastfed then it is normal for them to go days, sometimes a week, without pooping. and it could be a bit of nappy rash, or heat rash... ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

Maybe the poo isn't soft enough? Or he needs to go more frequently & therfore is doing too much poo at once? You could try using some prune juice diluted with some warm boiled water. Use some nappy ointment on the sore parts and use with each change. Try washing him with cotton balls or pads dipped in cool biolrd water or saline solution instead of wipes. Wipes can leave bacteria on the skin.
Is he feeding well, if he isn't taking enough fluid then it could be that the poo is a bit dry & hard.If he is bf then he should still be doing runny poos, if ff then they will be thicker but shouldn't be dry or crumbly. Hope he is feeling better soon. |

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Went to Dr and he said it might be a bit of thrush and he gave me this cream to try out. As far as the crying and straining he gave me some coloxyl drops. Man I feel this baby has had just about everything! He's not so bad down there no diaper rash (used to use a little ointment every now and again)... but he had thrush in his mouth so I had to give him these drops, then tried a gel and meanwhile I treated myself with cream, then he had dry skin on his back so I've been using aqueous cream as a moisturizer and bath soap alternative. So much work for his little body!
If Dr's treatment doesn't work so much I might just try the prune juice to get things moving along. ------------- Denise http://lilypie.com">

We used coloxyl drops with Dom and tried prune juice as well, for us it was 6 of one and half a dozen of another. But they both worked well.
Its amazing isn't it, how much thought and work you have to put in to such a tiny little person! |
