Just wondering if anyone on here has used them for post-natal care? or is booked in to do so?
I think it's the North West Auckland version of Birthcare. Looks really nice, hubby and I are going for a looksie this weekend

Haven't used it but apparently it is fabulous... I have heard only good things about it.

And apparently not as 'busy' as birthcare? I mean less mums and bubs staying there...

Does anyone have any updated feedback on the Helensville Birthing Centre? I am considering going there after #2 is born. I think it might be easier for Jack and DH to visit there as opposed to Waitakere Hosp.

We had planned to go there after Lauren was born, but I had emergency c section and after the traumatic birth I was not fit to go anywhere!! They will take you even if you have had a c section though.

SIL shifted there an hour after her bubs was born and she raved about the place. It is also very quiet and she got fabulous help when learning to b/f, unlike at Waitakere where you get told a million different things and then left to "flounder"!!

Oooooooh I'm booked in to go here (birthing at Waitakere then transferring). I've visited a friend there before and it was just like going to a hotel - big bed for her DH to stay too

I've talked to a couple of different people who have been there and LOVED it! It seems much more relaxed and private than the Auckland birthcare (although in saying that I have only visited one person there and she had to share a room and her DH couldn't stay - just looked like a hospital bed. So that probably isn't a fair comparison. She said the food was good though).

I've heard good things. The only negative I heard was from a mum who couldn't BF (and had decided not to try) and she got a bit of pressure about that

I do like the sound of it. SIL is looking into it (due 10wks before me) so I can have a good nosey if she goes, plus a friend who is due 6 days before booked to go.

Only prob could be talking DH into it as it is about a 30min drive from our new house (well the house we hope to be buying in the next few wks)

My SIL used Helensville after having both her babies, one just a few weeks ago. They are so lovely and the place is wonderful especially now it has all be done up.
She had a private room with a queen size bed, tv, and her own bathroom. Plus she said the food was amazing.
I will most definitley be transfering there if we have more babies

Hi Funlvn, that's great! I'm thinking of birthing at Waitakere too - how do I arrange to transfer to this birth centre for after care? Do I talk to my MW or apply straight to Hellensville? Also, how much would it cost?

Thakns!

Spicy Chick its free for 2 days if you transfer in after giving birth somewhere else, or 3 days if you have the baby there.
You can book by ringing them and asking for the forms.    Do it soon though would be my recommendation. I tryed to get in with when i was having my daughter but had left it too late in my pregnancy and there were no rooms available

Gee thanks for the tip, Mum2Sam! I'm now torn between Helensville and Auckland Birthcare, so might check them out and book soon :)

Lol, that's what I was going to write Mum2Sam

I just booked through my midwife - I'm local and she's from up here so it was really easy. I just filled in a form and she did the rest    Definitely go and check them both out Spicy Chick! Means my visitors will have to drive to Helensville but I figure its way easier for us, and if they want to come then they will

Where do you live, Funlvn? Dh just told me it's 45 mins drive for us....? We're in Avondale. But I suppose it's the distance between Waitakere Hospital to Helensville rather than from home aye

We're in Woodhill, about 10 mins from Helensville if that Is there a reason you're looking at Helensville rather than town?

I have to say that Helensville looks more homely whereas when I visited someone at Birthcare it seemed very hospital like to me

Spicy Chick, your husband is exaggerating, it'd only be half an hour from Avondale

I was booked in to go to Helensville - it is really lovely there and not 'hospitally' at all, as you thought Linzy - and I'm so sad I missed out (ended up spending 2 weeks in Waitakere after my emergency caesar and getting a wound infection). Next time round I want to avoid the hospital altogether if I can and will go for my VBAC at the birthing centre, all going well.
