I went for a scan at 32 weeks to check babies kidneys (lots of family problems) - kidneys looked good, except they were worried that the fluid levels are too low. I had a follow up scan at 34 weeks and still low fluid. I feel a bit in limbo - im not sure really what is going on, my mw said on saturday she is referring me to the public hospital to be seen, but havent heard a thing (easter grrr) so Im not really sure if this is serious or not. She was talking about being induced at 38 weeks.
Has anyone else been thru this or knows anyone who has?

Yip i had Olygohyrosis/Olygohydramnius (SP??) with my first baby which is low to no fluid left around him which was picked up at around 35 weeks then i had specialist apntmnt at around 37 weeks and was induced at 38 weeks.
Was a straight forward birth apart from vontous (SP??), i didnt have any waters to break which was weird!! and he was born looking quite overcooked and was quite sleepy which was aparently part of it all.
Im a little rusty on the rest of what happened seen as it was 5 yrs ago but i would urge you to ask your MW as much as you possibly can about it because i didnt - thinking they would tell me all i needed to know - they didnt and im kinda angry about it after asking my new MW about it and getting the facts.

one of the girls in my ante-natal class was induced a couple of days ago cos they were too low. she was induced and gave birth naturally with no stress. i know of someone else too but cant think of who it is. all i remember is that they monitor you more closely, induce at 38 weeks if they are too low but everything is pretty low key and not terribly serious aside from having to be ready to have your baby 2 weeks early. best of luck im sure all will be fine :)

I had low amniotic fluid with McKayla round and about 24 or 26 weeks. Cant remember. I was told to rest and drink loads of fluid. 4 weeks later it was back to normal.
(I got a scan at every visit with McKayla in SA)

How do they pick up the low fluid to begin with? Does everyone get another scan closer to EDD? According to my MW, I won't be getting anymore scans... so how would I know if my fluid is good?

I had low amniotic fluid with Aoife. She was also measuring small too so was monitored weekly from 28 weeks and had them at 35weeks.
Lots of rest from me helped Aoife stay cooking for longer.
Spicy Chick, they pick it up by finding the largest gap between bubs and the sac.
More scans past 28weeks isn't usual if you're with a MW, unless your MW thinks one is necessary.
I could be wrong but normally I would say low fluid would accompany the fundal height measuring behind.

yip - it was because of the history of kidney problems we were having the scan to start with, but mw said she would have ordered one anyway as I am measuring small for dates - which i guess is because there is so little fluid it makes the measurement less than it should be.
So another scan tomorrow and hopefully we can stay cooking for as long as possible. Im feeling a bit more positive about it all again after talking to my mw.

i think it was the measurements that did it for me too because all the way through he was a few weeks ahead of dates and then suddenly behind

Rowan had really low fluid as a follow on from the IUGR so she came out at 37.5 weeks. Absolutely perfect just small.
The main thing is they're monitoring it so you will be ok.
Ours was picked up in a presentation scan since she was breech.
