Ok I KNOW there have been threads on this before but I never paid attention as it was so easy with my first...anyhooo I am going back to work on Tues and I can take Tane to work with me for the first 5 weeks but I would like to start introducing him to a bottle now.

I tried to give him a bottle (formula) for his 2nd feed today and he was not having a bar of it. I even tried to take the edge of his hunger by giving boob and trying again but no go. It is only early days but anyones tips will be muchly appreciated!

Thanks!

Will he take it with EBM in it? Might have just been the taste he didn't like. You can mix EBM and formula if that is the case and slowly wean him onto the taste.
If that's not the case then apparently giving the bottle at a dream feed can help and also if he has a dummy picking a teat the same as the dummy can help as it's familiar.

my son wouldnt take a bottle at about the same age. If he has EBM he has it from a soft spout sippy cup. SOmeone on here suggested it and he took to it real quick. We use tommy tippy soft spout 260mls ones. He has now had formula a couple times when ive been sick and took it fine from his sippy cup. Good luck

angel. did he take it from a sippy cup that young?  We are having the same problem. James wont have a bar of a bottle and I have a wedding that I am bridesmaid at in a couple of weeks...eek!  Might try the sippy cup.  Are they the ones with NUBY on the top?

We had a wedding too lol our wedding and we needed him to take a bottle. Its not the nuby one but i think they are similar. Our one is tommy tippy they are like a tall sippy cup with no haddles. Aparently its more similar to breastfeeding than a bottle. I'll see if i can find the topic i started a few months back when i was needing help.

I had a wedding to go to as well and just followed what the Baby Whisperer said to do. I got DH to offer the bottle in the morning (when she is most hungriest) I stayed well away as she did not seem to take it if I was in the room, it took a little while but she took it in the end. Now she has 2 bottles every day no problem.

The younger they are when you introduce the bottle the easier it is, apparently. Not much help, I know! I'd had those Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles recommended for a breastfed baby - people love them! (though we use Avent). When Ella went through a phase of refusing the bottle we had a bit of success with getting her Dad to feed it to her with me not in the room. If I were there, she knew the milk truck was available and wouldn't have a bar of that bottle, even though it was the same stuff! It was only mildly successful - I think persevering through the phase is what got us there in the end. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I think I might try the sippy cup thing. I couldnt remember if it was best to offer bottle when hungriest or not so thanks Andie. The funny thing is he actually HAD had the 'odd' bottle and the last time he took one was March 21st when I went out for a day but it seems he has decided he is above bottles lol!! Will try EBM as a dream feed tonight and see what happens as well...

Ive just started DD on the bottle also.

I got a tommy tippee bottle from the Chemist - it specifically states breastfeeding bottle, the teat is shaped to feel and move like nipple etc.

Ive started expressing because she wont yet take formula, im hoping after a wk or 2 of taking the bottle of EBM she will then take Formula.

DP gives her the bottle in the morning when she is most hungriest, at the same time i will express from for the next morning. I do this in another room, also i make sure DD doesnt see me in the morning.,

I have tried getting DD to take a bottle for well over a month and have brough several different ones, i found the Tommy Tippee one i got is the best.

This is some bottles here on this link so you know what they look like
