I have *just* started Jody on Farex with EBM. However I have noticed in some books it says to offer cooled boiled water after a farex feed. I thought breastfed bubbas didn't need water. Or do they need it after solids to avoid constipation? I am making the farex very runny, like soup.

At 5 months we were offering Caden water, but he is a FF bubba. It definitely wont hurt to offer her some water

I offer water in a sippy cup after a solids feed, have done since about 6 months, just make sure she has a few hours without water before a BF. I give my girl her sippy cup 3 times a day, and in total she'll drink about 40ml.

i fully bf my babies but did give them a sippy cup with meals when they were able to sit in their highchair... more to get used to than anything else tho... i think it is more for ff babies who are more prone to constipation issues.

I would offer water, its good to get them to try it and also I believe that bf babies can be more prone to constipation

It's true, you get different advice from everywhere I guess both can be true, bf bubs rely on mum's diet to keep things working, and ff bubs need a formula that agrees with their tums sometimes.
I gave Jody a little bit of water after her afternoon farex, just from her baby spoon, she loved it! Much nicer than farex she told me lol
I think I'll get her a tippy cup when she is a little bit older, like over 6 months.
Why do I need to wait a few hours after she's had water before offering a breastfeed? She feeds quite often during the day, especially over here as it is pretty hot.

so she doesnt fill up on water and not get what she needs from the milk... if she is feeding lots still anyway i wouldnt worry about the water...

That makes sense. She only had about a teaspoon of water after her feed anyway, I don't think she knows she is meant to swallow food/water yet anyway, just having fun tasting

And I thought that as long as a baby is getting enough fluid be it formula for bm that they shouldn't get constipated...

Our little goat has a few sips from the sippy cup after solids. Mostly, like others have said, to get her used to it, and also because some of the solids do tend to get her *blocked up* a bit. Even though she has been exclusively BF from birth and now BF plus solids.
The worst culprits for constipation seem to be things like banana and potato, whereas kumara and broccoli go right through!!!!!!! *yuk* Most of the water seems to dribble down onto the bib, but she does like to try to take the cup herself so she is obviously enjoying drinking

Well Jody is very happy to take the water from her spoon, she gets really excited when she has the first taste lol. She only has a tiny bit, but she also only has a tiny bit of Farex. She is pooping as per normal
I have heard to stay away from the 'BRAT' foods, I know that's banana, *something*, apple and *something*.
Think I'll try pear next...

LOL chickoin - the 'R' is rice, which is Farex pretty much
A lot of babies get a wee bit blocked up when they first start solids, particularly if they have been exclusively breastfed as their digestive systems have to adjust. They don't need water necessarily and I don't think it does much to help the constipation as they only take such tiny amounts, but like others have said, getting bub used to a cup is a good idea.
