Hi, I was wondering if anyone had been diagnosed (if that's the right word) with placenta praevia? At my 20 week scan they said my placenta was "directly over the birth canal" and my mw confirmed last night that I have placenta praevia. I have another scan at 32 weeks to see if it has moved, but everyone seemed very impressed with just how low it is . Apparently on the 1-4 scale, it's a 4.

My mw has told me, worst case scenario is that I will be admitted to hospital after the 32 week scan for bedrest.

Has anyone had this? Did your placenta move? Did you have to have the bedrest? It would be great to hear some other people's experiences.

Thanks

Hi there,  I had this at my 20 wk scan with Jett.  Though don't think mine was as low as yours.  I had another scan at 32 weeks and it had moved up.

I hope the same happens for you!  Just think you'll get to see your babe again before it's born.

Hi - I had the same thing and have another 2 weeks to go before I will know if it has moved up out of the way. I think it has because I can now feel movement in the fron low down which is where the placenta is/was. I was told that 95% of these move as the placenta is attached to the wall of the uterus and as the uterus gets bigger the placenta stays attached at the same point so in effect it moves up out of the way.

I think the bed rest is only if you are spotting and if yours hasn't moved by then, then you will probably be scheduled for an early c-sect. My thinking on that is that bubs has to come out one way or another.

Try not to stress until you get the scan.

My cousin had this and had baby early by C sect ( I think 6 weeks early). Her little boy is doing beautifully.

my friend has just had her baby and she had it. i think she had really high blood pressure as well so i dont know how much was due to the PP and how much was due to the blood pressure but she was put in the put into the hospital at 36 weeks and had a c-section at 38 weeks. they are both doing fine and they have had no other problems. i think the normal case if the placenta doesnt move is either to have a planned c-section at 38 weeks or a c-section when you go into the early signs of labour. there is increased chance of bleeding through the pregnancy as well so i think you are monitored a bit closer
