I have searched around for baby eating topics, and they only seem to be about babies who appear to eat a lot!

My DD is 6 1/2 months - she has a breast feed in the morning and at about 5.30 pm. She has formula in the day time at daycare and probably has about 300 ml there in total on average together with a few teaspoons of fruit or veggies. She then has a bottle of formula (about 180 ml) before bed at about 7.30

how much solid food should she ideally be eating to get all the nutrients etc she needs? It is hard to get more than about 1/2 a jars worth a day down her especially if it is veggies (she much prefers fruit).

i probably shouldn't be worried but keep hearing of other people's babies of the same age eating huge amounts of food!

I wouldnt be worried as shes only just 6months and some babies don't even start solids till then. Just go with how much she wants. In my expert opinion (lol) babies aren't silly - if they're hungry they'll let you know and as long as when she is eating your giving her healthy stuff then i don't see a problem.

At 6 and a half months, my girl would eat about a jar over the course of a day, then she hit about 7 and a half months and started packing it away! Now she'll eat a bowl of fruit (half a jar) and muesli for breakfast, a small meal at lunch time, and about a cup of food for dinner on a good night. I had the same worry as you at the same age, she'll eat as much as she needs too.

They don't eat much to start with, remember the size of your little girl's stomach is the size of her fist and she will have already had a milk feed. I wouldn't worry about nutrition as at 6.5mths milk is still the most important part of their diet. It is natural for her to prefer fruit over veges as babies tend to like the sweeter foods, I think it is because bm is so sweet.

She's drinking quite a lot of milk to be hungry for solids. At some point you'll drop feeds and introduce more solids... in fact, offer solids before milk. But there's no hurry to do that at this stage unless she is suddenly not sleeping through the night or some other signal to tell you that she's too hungry.

thanks all - she sleeps through most nights so i guess she isn't hungry! - I may just try offering veggies and fruit before the milk feeds this weekend . . .
