Hi ladies,

I am just trying to get my paperwork sorted for PPL etc...early I know, but I finish work at 28 weeks and want to get everything organised while my branch manager is up from Palmy in the next two days.

My actual due date is 24/09/09. I finish work on 03/07/09 and want to start getting the PPL as from 20/08/09 (what should be 36w, if I make it that far). How do I request this? I don't seem to have the option on the PPL form that IRD needs?

There should be a place for you to state when you want the payments to start, if theres not fill it all in the when you get your certificate of entiltlement in the post just give them a ring and they will change the payment dates for you.

If I have it right and remember it right.  You put your EDD in the box that asks for that and then in the box that ask when your parental leave starts, thats where you would put 20/08/09.  Prior to that you are on holiday/unpaid leave etc.  It pays to take all your holidays owed to you before PPL as they are worth more that way as they get averaged out over the previous weeks/months etc.

Does that help????

Yeah I was sure there was somewhere to write what date you wanted the payments to start, unless it is in the section that the employer fills in. Mine actually started after my due date as I used up my annual leave first, so there must be a place to put the date somewhere

Oh phew, thank you!! It's under the employer's section, but I have filled it in on their behalf so they don't stuff it up. I'm planning to take any annual leave I have owing when I first leave, but I don't think I'll have many days up my sleeve...somewhere between 1-2 weeks would be fab!!

Remember you need to take all of your annual leave before you can start paid parental leave. i am finishing at 37 weeks, then taking all of my annual leave so beginning PPL at 41 weeks.

You dont' HAVE to take all your annual leave, but it's better if you do because it's worth more. No-one can tell you that you have to take your annual leave. Im only taking mine because otherwise I would have 8 weeks unpaid before PPL starts, and I'd rather reduce that than keep some annual leave up my sleeve...

Sorry !!! - i just checked - it is the company policy where I work that you need to take the leave before you start parental leave. If you don't it should still retain its full value when you come back - unlike the leave you accumulate while on leave!
