Hi - can anyone recommend either of these classes in Wellington, I am trying to decide between birth wise in Newtown or parents centre in Island bay. I want one that has good coffee groups that you continue on with. The birth wise one is cheaper at $155, and I think the parents centre is $205 approx.

I know Birth wise are pro- natural, I don't want to be frowned upon if I think an epidural is ok!
I also want to be given info on a few natural methods which I hope Parents Centre do offer aswell.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I went to Parents Centre (Wellington North) and they were great. We've got a really active coffee group from it as well. You get a year's membership for the price, which means magazines and discounted courses for the year.

Good luck!

I can't reccommend birthwise enough. they facilitate meet ups for a couple of months after the births are done and the majority of my group still catch up at least fortnightly 2 years on.

They also have coffee mornings jointly with Domino midwives. They are very much a give the options and let you find out any other info rather than spoon feeding you all the info.
You also get a years membership

I joined parents centre (mana) and they have been just awesome. I can't remember the classes much but I meet the girls at least once a week, in fact most days we end up doing something, so its been great for making friends.

I think doing things with a group before birth means you get to know each other a bit pre baby which helps.

we went through Wellington Parent Centre South and it was great.

Amy is 3 in a coupe of months and 5 of us still meet up each week!! They also run a great post-natal course - Baby & You which I also attended. I suggested to the other mums in that class that we meet for coffee once the classes were finished (4 weeks) and that group is still meeting each week too. Of course it depends on your group and how much effort the different people put in.

Whoever you do go with, don't hang around too long as they fill up fast!

I can thoroughly recommend Parents Centre in Island Bay too - I really enjoyed our class, and I found the information really balanced. We formed a fantastic coffee group and we meet every week at someone's house.

My cousin attended the Birthwise one and also found it good. Her husband was a bit of a sceptic (ie, in his words, he 'thought they'd be all tree-hugging hippies!'), but he was pleasantly surprised. There were a few people in the group with rather extreme views (for want of a better word) but it was still quite a good mix.

i second parents centre they are amazing. they are also quite pro-natural but at the same time are totally fine with medical as well, they generally dont ask you personally what you are doing, just inform you about all of the options. they arrange your hospital tours (we had ours 2nite) they also run courses on breastfeeding and stretching and post natal stuff as well. im really really enjoying tehm and ours has a little library too so we can borrow books if we are interested as well

Thanks every one for your comments, I think I will go with the Parents centre one.

HI there, Im wondering whether some antenatal classes might be more suitable than others for people like me who have to have a C-section (I have no choice due to a pre existing condition. Natural birth would ruin me)? Does anyone know if one class might be better than another in my case? Thanks.

bubbles, for you I wouldn't do the Birthwise class. I had booked in for that class before I knew I was having twins and I found the classes not to be relevant at all.
Having said that I did only make 4 classes
