Okay, I have a confession to make. At first I was temping with a normal thermometer because it was a digital one that had 1 decimal place and I figured, what the heck, how can that be any less accurate.
Anyway, have now gotten a basal one and my temps have risen DRAMATICALLY since using it.
Now I also have another confession to make...it says to put in mouth for four minutes before taking a reading but to be honest at 5.30am I don't feel that awake that I can even work out how long 4 minutes is....so does this really matter? Does everyone else do this? Is this gonna affect my temps, if I am consistent then it shouldn't matter should it, or does the air temp inconsistency matter.

Hey Nat, my basal thermometer beeps when it's ready and usually takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute. I got it off trademe for about $18.

Hey Nat

Im exactly the same as treen same thermometer and reading time. I then just pop it to the side of me and when i get up later on i turn on the thermometer and the temp i took earlier is in the memory so i record it on FF then.

Okay, thats cool, mine also beeps after about 30 seconds.   I was just worried that I was doing it wrong since the instructions said to hold in mouth for 4 minutes! I thought maybe it takes that long to stabilise....

I would have thought that once it beeps then the reading is taken and it won't keep reading regardless? Once my BBT had beeped, that was it, it didn't register any other changes.

I'm the same as Chickielou. My thermometer is a digital one but only goes to one decimal place. I can still figure out my temps ok, they just aren't as precise as some others.

Does everyone take their temps really early? I see Nat, you do yours at 5:30am and I remember seeing in an old thread, people were doing theirs at 4:30am and 5:30am. Is this the time you girls get up??

Treen i set an alarm for 7:05am every morning at which i take my temp and then generally goto sleep. The reasoning i have for this time is it is very very rare that i would ever get up earlier than this time so therefore not likely i will take my time at a different time or after having been up and about all ready. If i do have to for some reason get up earlier than that then i just change my time on FF

Some days of the week I get up early to go to the gym so I have to take my temp early every day (5.15am) - however I set the alarm and if I don't have to get up on that particular day I will just take my temp and then go back to sleep. My DP used to wake up when my alarm went and wasn't able to get back to sleep - he is used to it now tho which I am pleased about as I was starting to feel bad for waking him up, but not bad enough to stop temping!!!

I also bought my thermometer off TM for $18 and I find it great.

Yeah we start work at 6.30 so wake up early! In the weekends now (only just started) I also leave alarm on and take temp at same time then go back to sleep!
Re the beeping, I think the instructions in my one mean BEFORE turning it on even, stick in mouth for 4 minutes. Seems way too complicated for me so am gonna stick with how I have been doing since everyone else sounds the same!

Yeah, not sure what that's all about, Nat. I reckon just turn it on, wait for it to read low (takes a few seconds), then stick it in your mouth till it beeps.

My acupuncturist also gave me a couple tips: put it under your tongue but as far back as you can manage and always take your temps from the same side under your tongue.
