to put vick in a bowl of steaming water and place this near my sons cot to help him breath? I did this just now and he went of too sleep so much more peacfully. I don't want to rub it on him as he's still so small but is breathing it in okay or should I not do this again??

Don't see why not, I have a menthol liquid that I put in water in a steamer so it would be doing the same thing....the Dr told me to do it when Joel was sick at 3 weeks.

I use vicks baby balsam on my daughter, it's fine to use from 6 months.

Mum told me to do the steaming thing with Hollie, and she's younger :)

It fine to do that. I also use to clip a tissue with vicks in it underneath Dominic's pj collar rather than put it on his skin.

Yes, absolutely fine. You can put it under his cot too. There is a baby balsam done by Vicks which is ok to put on their bodies (it won't "burn") from 3mos - available at the supermarket.

We hang a T towel with Karvol (similar) oil on it - on the end of Olis cot.

My bubs has a cold at the moment and I tried the Saline for the nose and also got some of the Karvol oil and placed on a tissue on the floor by her cot (it smelled quite strong) and we had a much better night. I had a feeling when I was reading about colds that we couldn't use Vicks, but I could be totally wrong!!

I'd say so.  I also put a bit of eucalyptus on a tissue under his sheet.

One suggestion a pharmacist gave me if you want a "cheap" vapouriser is to set up a crock pot in their room and let it bubble away all night.

I had heard that you shouldnt use vicks until bubs is 2. Not too sure why. Im sure it says this on the box.

Yeah that's why you use Baby Balsam which is still Vicks (same brand etc), but specially formulated for babies from 6 months (says this on the box). I'm sure when I used it for my child though it said from 4 months up?

Vicks would be fine to use if its not directly on baby's skin and is only on a cloth or in a bowl with steaming water.

Another idea is putting it on a tissue and putting it between the layers of clothing on bubs so there is no way it can touch their skin but can be close enough to breathe.

I was told to do that and put it under the cot. We used vicks baby balsam on Cadens clothes from 2 months old and then on his skin from 6 months old.

Thanks everyone. The steaming water is doing the trick. We sit in there for a few minute and then he is able to feed beautifully. He is also able to sleep much better with it too. I will trying put it on a cloth near him as I think that will help too.
