Be honest now... for those of you who've had babies before...
Do you think your babies are gorgeous the first time you set eyes on them? Or were you disappointed?
Being a new mommy, I'm so excited to meet bub at the end of the journey but on the other hand, will I get disappointed?
I look at DH all the time now, trying to picture how bub would look like... it's like being given a pressie, you know what you're getting but you just can't picture it. Will I love it immediately? Oh I can't wait to unwrap it and see what it looks like!!!

I thought both of mine were beautiful straight away but then they are! Not that I'm bias or anything
Even if you have a FLK (funny looking kid) they will be beautiful to you.

hahaha , when C was born , the first thing I thought was
"you aint putting that anywhere near me til you clean her up ! "
Once she was wiped down and I looked at her properly , I thought she was the most beautiful baby ever , she had a tiny nose and a beautiful round head.
That was probably because I was biased tho (and relieved she was a girl, when I first saw the umbilical cord , I thought I had a really well endowed son ...)
Im not one of those "all newborn babies are beautiful " tho, they are beautiful in the new baby, miracle of life type way, but really , there are some ugly newborns out there. Im sorry , its true .
But they get cuter over the next couple of days ....once all that swelling has gone down

I thought his head shape looked a bit stupid because it was cone shape for the first few hours from a posterior birth and getting a bit stuck.. but once that settled down I thought he was gorgeous and so did the MWs. One MW said to me that 1/10 babies are beautiful and that I had one. I was like awwwwwww w I love you lol.

I was pretty spaced out when Lauren came into the world with all the drugs I was on. I thought she looked like my Dad and her name was Nicole that wasn't her name at all, my name is Nicole! I don't recommend drugs at all!!
To answer your question seriously though, I thought Lauren was the most perfect, gorgeous baby I had ever seen and I didn't care what anyoen else thought! To me she was everything I dreamed she would be!

I have to admit I have a very close friend who has this baby girl that honestly looks like an unattractive balding old man lol. But she thinks her baby is the most gorgeous thing in the world. I think most people consider their own beautiful whether it's true or not. However my belief is that quite often ugly or strange looking babies usually grow up to be drop dead gorgeous and pretty babies often grow up to be quite ordinary or plain looking. I think my girls are pretty babies but I don't think they'll grow up to be twin versions of Rachel Hunter lol!
To answer the actual question though my girls were purple, covered in blood and screaming my first thought was honestly - they look like aliens!

Jake looked like a little doll, he was perfect, with a wee head of dark hair and a perfectly round head. I couldn't believe how perfect he looked.
Charlotte was red, wrinkly, bald and angry looking. Peeling and funny looking, like a skinned monkey. I loved her to bits.l but it took a looong itme before she got "cute". And I rmember thining when they put her in my arms "oh, she's not cute like Jake was"
I'm with Kelly ,I don't think all babies ar beautiful, but all mothers will think their babies are cute, and everyone will always say how beautiful/cute they are regardless.

both my kids were extremely cute the moment they came out.......even though jack had red marks around his eyes and charli's head was really bruised from trying to get out
i can remember some very vivid dreams i had near the end of my pregnancies that involved THE most hideous babies i've ever seen!
i think it's a perfectly natural thing to fear...

Gosh no, Belle was not a pretty baby. I felt very protective but didnt think she was beautiful until she was a few weeks old.
She had these little seal-grey eyes and didnt cry, just glared at you like she was grumpy about being hauled out.

When Elle was born she was overdue, so she was a bit wrinkly, peeling skin and her facial features were quite puffy, so when I first looked at her she wasn't quite the cutest baby in the whole world but she was gorgeous to me. Her puffiness went away after a day or 2 and then I thought she was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I was worried he'd be a FLK but was relieved that he was cute - albeit purple and puffy, but he had these big blue eyes that just looked straight at me.
One friend had a CS and her first 2 questions were "does it have a giant birthmark on its face" and "has it got all 4 limbs". To this day, she doesn't know where that came from, but it was very important at the time!

Thanks for the candor guys! This is great...
I know it's shallow but hey, right now that's all I can obsess about. How our creation would look like. And yeah, I get what you mean.. even if I had a FLK others wouldn't tell me so. I just wondered if all mummies are biased and think they are gorgeous anyway... so it's great to hear some of you saying that you honestly didn't think so at first!!!
My mom told me that when I was born, her best friend's daughter was also born 2 months before me.
But I was an ugly looking creature. I was 2 months premature, and was a dark, crying, tiny, hairy looking creature. Each time they took their daughters out on a stroller, we would be side by side and strangers would gather around her best friend's daugher and commented how cute and beautiful she was (She's everything I wasn't - chubby, rosy, smiling). No one would even glance at me
But hey, now that we've grown up, I must say that I ain't that bad looking.

haha! Yes newborns are ugly! People do lie
But you wont care, you will think it is the most wonderful thing & love it.
Honestly I thought Brae was the cutest thing ever. I was told that when people say he is beautiful they arent lying
Kalyx was an ugly baby, he looked like a monkey for the first month- but no one said he was- tis what I thought & still loved him none the less

Hey Spicy Chick. I loved DD from the start and I must admit that I didn't really get to see the cone head thing because I was a bit spacey but DH did. I have to say that all newborn babies that I have seen look very much like a wrinkly pink monkey and they start to straighten out after that. In DD's case it continued a bit longer though because she had red scaley skin for quite a while and we had to use hydrocortisone cream on her to clear it up.
No matter how your baby looks when it comes out you will love it anyway and it only gets better.

After over 24 hours of labour resulting in an emergency c/s my daughter's face were so swollen that you couldn't see her eyes. Plus she was all red, peeling and covered in hair.
She wasn't attractive at all. But all that went away in a few weeks then she was cute.

lol i love this thread!
Seriously, i did think Paris was cute, but it took me a long time to kinda relate to her, and was kinda like "is she ours?" cos she was dark haired and still a bit hairy (she had fine dark hair from her hairline down to her dark bushy eyebrows.. i kinda hoped it would go away cos man she was hairy!! (it did!) she also looking back had a very very cone-shaped head but i didn't notice it at the time - i noticed it in pics later.
Ayja was really different looking all together, because she's so fair you couldn't really see her eyelashes or eyebrows at all and she too was really quite a puffy little thing. once she was all cleaned up and settled a day later the pics looked much better.
of course at the time you don't notice it's more like ooooh thank goodness its over and awwww, theres my baby... by the time you come down off the natural/(or drug induced) high a day later, the baby is less puffy and cleaner and of course is definately more beautiful.

Honestly... I thought Keira was kinda funny looking Everyone kept saying how beautiful she was and I just nodded and smiled, but deep down I was hoping she wasnt going to stay this way for ever.
She had the chubbiest cheeks and was red and screaming, not the tiny little sweet face I had pictured in my mind.
I loved her but I think it took a few months for her to actually start looking cute! Oh and she was a baby with a giant birth mark on her face.
With Maddi I think I had more of an idea what to expect but I still didnt think she was the most beautiful baby in the world - still giant and purple, coverd in gooey stuff for days.

"how talented am I ? I gave birth to a bald baby gorilla ..."
But I must say, I think shes pretty stunning now .
Especially now, since shes asleep in bed .

I thought Rico was just gorgeous, but then he came out looking so much like how I'd pictured. Gia was totally different looking to Rico, and didn't think she was as cute, she had the chingiest eyes! But after a few days her face started to change and I thought she was gorgeous too. Jett I thought was soo soo cute when he was born, no doubt in my mind!
I have a friend whose both her babies were sooo not cute at all born, and only got worse looking , which surprised me as she and her husband weren't bad looking. Obviously their genes just don't mix well.

I thought Jack was beautiful, he had so much hair and was just so cute, the first thing I thought when I saw him was 'yay I got a cute one'
Caprece was hideous she had no hair, eyebrows or eyelashes and really dark skin. She looked like a bald old man. I remember people saying she was cute but she was nothing compared to Jack as a newborn. Luckily she has since grown white hair and still has dark ish skin so I think shes pretty beautiful now.
You will also think your baby gets cuter and cuter as they get fatter and start smiling and playing its only when you look back you realise maybe they weren't so cute afterall

I thought Maya was the most beautiful baby ever, people were always telling me how beautiful she was but now that I look back at photos she was actually puffy cheeked and kinda funny looking right up until about 7 or 8 mths. Now she's really pretty - when she lets me brush her hair!
I don't remember what I thought about the gremlins, but they were tiny and early so looked like wizened old men, Sienna took a while to grow into her skin and then they both had hugely puffy cheeks. Now I'm realistic about it, I think they're average looking, they're definitely not ugly and they're not funny looking, but they're not classic beauties.
And lil miss, well I call her the prettiest girl from girlville and I really do think she's the prettiest baby. I don't know what it is, she has the most beautiful eyes that were stunning blue and are now kinda gray/green and she has really nice skin. But at birth she was pretty bloody unattractive - beaten and bruised from her rapid delivery, she had a graze above her eye and was very blue. Not at all

haha, im different as usual, I thought C was gorgeous, then I thought after a few weeks that she looked like a little monkey (photos beg to differ, she really was pretty ) and now I think she is beautiful ( incidentally some lady gave me a card with her number and told me i should get C into modelling when I was out the other day , I think C's ego is already big enough quite frankly )
Mind you , I quite like the idea of a pet baby monkey, NO ! a chimpanzee ! ..ooh ! and I can get one wearing a nappy ,and he can waddle along next to me holding my hand .....

Jody was purple, slimy, bloody, stinky and screaming right at my face. Also she has mucus oozing from her nose. Not so cute lol.
Once she calmed down and had her face wiped a bit I thought she was pretty gorgous though!
But for the first few days I couldn't believe how everyone said she was so perfect, I didn't understand how they missed her weak and doubled chin and her mega cone head lol
It's so true that you think your own baby is the most beautiful in the world!

hehehe, Ive always thought scrawny faced little babies all looked the same, but once they a few months old they start taking on their own look and have mother or fathers features...
I always wonder what mine will look like, not that it really matters, I think me and hubby have fairly nice features so hopefully they will mix in nicely.
But I always have in my mind a little brunette with gorgeous hazel eyes and the longest eyelashes ever!

All along I was hoping and praying I wouldn't have a fugly baby!
Jack was pretty cute, but nothing compared to what he is like now. He was really tiny looking and skinny but heavy for some reason. A bit of hair which surprised me as I was pretty much bald until 3yo
I knew Jack wasn't ugly because my mum's best friend can't lie, and I would have seen it written all over her face. First thing she said is 'oh thank god I don't have to lie to you' and then it was 'wow, so this is what a cute kid looks like, mine were so ugly, they just looked like little martians' Lovely aye!
But yeah, you see some kids and they definitely have faces only a mother could love

I agree totally, its like you need something to grow into. My sister for example was all lips, think angelina's lips on a baby! It was odd but now she is sooo beautiful!!
I don't know where FLK came from. I had the same sort of thoughts when pregnant with Dominic and my mum came out with that one.
I think my babies only came out pretty because I has such fast labours they didn't have time to get squashed! Their eyes were a little bit swollen for the first few days but other than that they were fine.

When born Aoife looked like a skinned rabbit Once she was cleaned up and I got a quick cuddle, she looked like a mouse. haha!
It took Aoife about 2 months before she had knees, as she was all skin and no substance in her legs. I still remember a friend coming to visit who said; "wow she's got knees now!"
Both girls had hairy backs when born Which is what I was most worried about. You'll be happy to know that both girls have normal back now.
Still have a bald Aoife but they're both pretty darn cute

When Morgan was born and people asked me what she looked like i told them she looked like the bride of chucky ( from the movie childs play) she had horrible forcep marks all over her face and lots of red pressure marks from getting stuck not to mention the cone head, although now she is a beautiful little thing.
With Libby I was instantly smitten she was just georgous and still is.

I thought Michaela was weird looking when she was first handed to me. Mind you I was in shock after a really quick early labour and she'd only been given a brief rub down so she was still covered in vernix, blood & meconium plus being a vb she was a bit squished (the only other babies I'd ever seen straight away were delivered by cs and were bigger babies, Michaela was tiny).
Within a few hours I completely fell in love with her and thought she was the most beautiful little girl to ever grace the earth (which of course she is) and I spent most of the night, from 11:30pm when I got to the maternity ward, taking pictures of her on my mobile.
Once she started getting chubby she became even cuter (I chubby babies) and I do think she is a very beautiful little girl.
