Hey, over the last day or two Finley has taken to grunting like all the time.

It looks sounds like he is straining to do a bm, but he does it even after a bm. He has been on solids for probably a week or two and we have had some issues with constipation but he seems ok now.

Is the grunting/straining noise something he has discovered and thinks is fun or do we have stomach issues here.

Anyone had anything similar.

It is probably just a fun noise for him to make. Dominic went through a stage of saying 'grrrrwarrr' at the top of his voice at around the same age. We just got back from playcentre and there was a 6 month old there making all sorts of strange noises and having great fun with his voice!
If you think he is uncomfortable or in pain then you should take him to the doctor.

Ok, so the grunting has got worse and he is not happy so we are off to the Dr.

Plunket seemed to think he should not be on solids, or maybe we made some formula up wrong.

I think he is ok with solids, been giving them for a while now and he has been ok, until yesterday I do wonder if we made some formula up wrong, could easily happen I guess.

Poor wee grunty baby

Good luck at the doc.

Lil miss went thru a similar stage not long after we started her on solids but hers was totally related to BMs, she'd get tears in her eyes and a very red face!

Her latest noise tho is growling, she growls all the time like a baby lion!

Ok well the Dr seems to think last week when he was badly constipated that he had a little tear (sp) in his bum, anyway then poos got soft, all good, then another hard one and he thinks he is going but stopping because it hurts, so grunts a lot because he still needs to go but is stopping himself.

Anyway we have laxitives to give for 3 weeks, until we have had soft poos for that long to give the sore bit time to heal.

so we'll see what happens, the dr said to try 5 ml and keep increasing it until we get the correct amount, he said it will be clear when we have over shot

Ok so the laxitives did their trick fairly quickly, he had a pretty big, soft poo but still straining and grunting afterwards - not as much, has he got into a habbit maybe, if we distract him he stops doing it.
