I'm 19 weeks pregnant and my MW just prescribed me metronidazole to treat a vaginal infection. I did some online search and found that metronidazole easily "crosses the placental barrier and rapidly enters the foetal circulation" They definitely consider it to be unsafe during the first trimester of pregnancy and haven't proved yet it's safe later. Have you ever had a similar problem? What did your MWs advise?

I am a health professional and we have been told to avoid the use of metronidazole in pregnancy.
I personally wouldn't be that happy about taking it.

If you aren't happy about taking it, ask your MW to change the antibiotic.
