Hi,

Slightly embarassed but I have to ask

Today I did my first serious exercise since having ds and was a bit suprised that when I started running there was a bit of wee

I have never been good at doing the pelvic floor exercises, i'm not sure what i'm doing, is this normal, should I just try and do more to tighten it up, just hadn't realised how bad it was.

On top of all that I was scarily unfit, but still I have started and I did really enjoy it.

Yep! Normal I'm afraid - I've got mine mostly back into shape now except for when I spew Oh, and I have to stand still when I sneeze LOL

My antenatal class instructor suggested using a trigger for yourself - so if you lived in town, for instance, she suggested doing them every time you are driving somewhere and have to stop at a traffic light. I haven't come up with a trigger for myself yet but I was pretty good while pg so haven't had any issues, touch wood.

Hmmm maybe my trigger should be every time I post on OB... then they'd be really strong

I was really lucky - was so lazy during pregnancy but haven't had any issues. Bet I won't be so lucky after round two!

They say exercises after pregnancy are really important too. There were a couple of exercises we were taught in antenatal classes.

HOLDING
Pull in as hard as you can like you were stopping weeing and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat a million times.

STAIRS
Do the same, but gradually increase the tightness in steps... up and down if you get my drift. So you step up, up, up, up, up and then hold, and then go down, down, down, down. Basically increasing and reducing the strength with which you hold.

Maybe you could do these exercises everytime you bottle feed Finley... he'll never know!! Heh heh.

*squeeze..... release.........squeeze..... release.........*

I didn't have issues with mine until I got pregnant again and then everytime I vomitted (which was unfortunately regularly) I realised how weak my PF really is and yet I still forget.

How many exercises are we supposed to do per day?  I might have to set up a reminder on my mobile or something.

I try to remember when I am feeding or talking on the phone but I forget! Thanks for the reminder Fi, I'm not as strong as I used to be, that's for sure!

Umm, I don't think there is a limit on how much you are supposed to do in a day, just do it!! Do it now!!

one of the tricks my sister was taught at pilates was clench as you breath out, release as you breath in

that way your body learns the response of tightening when you breath out ie sneezing and coughing

her instructor suggested you do them every time you wash your hands and try to make it as part of your handwashing routine

Hehehe - this thread is a great reminder!!! Well done!!!

I have been seeing a specialist physio about mine, but at $60 a pop once a month, its getting a bit too expensive. I do think they have improved heaps, but at the moment I have a cold - so the sneezing and couging isnt helping!

I got away with being lazy with Dom but Isobelle completely wrecked any strength there
When I remember I like to do them after going to the loo (never during it can give you a UTI) and at red lights.

This could possibly be TMI but before I became pregnant this time I brought one of those KegelMaster vaginal exercisers. It is fabulous.

I no longer leak when sneezing or exercising, and after three babies there was a fair bit of that before.

The actual "exerciser" is a little phallic looking, but it WORKS. I have had a couple of other friends who have used to too and everyone raves about it. I will certainly use it again after this baby too.
