Hey Team,

Been reading about sleeping and in one book it tells me to sleep on my sides (either) and not on your back. Then I was reading a few websites and books and they said to not sleep on your right side.

So my question is.... What side do you sleep on? The doc said not on your back cause of the "vein" but then other websites/books say dont sleep on your right side because of the "vein"?

Any help??? Confused....

Does this make sense....

I've read that it's only a problem how you sleep if it makes you feel light headed (then you know your cutting off the blood flow). Otherwise it's fine.

I asked my MW about this and she said just to sleep whatever way is comfortable, if the bloodflow down the vein is restricted and you start to feel dizzy or sick then you will move anyway.

I was told by my mw when I was pg with Jack not to sleep on my back but I can't remember at what stage that was, I vaguely remember her saying the left side is the better of the two.

With this pg I am sleeping on my back a bit but also either side. Was going to ask my mw about this soon

I slept a lot on my back......I figured some sleep on my back was better than no sleep on my side as I was too uncomfortable

your suppose to sleep on your left side as there is a major vein that is on the right side that can get compressed but as the other ladies said you will move when it gets uncomfortable, well before anything happens.

I lie on my back with a pillow under my right side just to make sure baby doesn't compress that vein but never had any probs

There are lasies on here that still lie on their stomach, so whatever feels comfortable for you but if you are worried just talk to your LMC

I think in the 3rd trimester it's also best to sleep on the left side, to help baby get into the right position. Honestly I cannot sleep in just one position through the night - and I can't get to sleep without starting on my right side lol - so I don't worry about all that talk. In the course of any given night I would have laid on both my sides anyway.

I usually sleep on my stomach or my side, I would normally sleep on my right side but noticed I automatically sleep my left side now :) must be some truth to it then!

My MW told me to sleep "however I felt comfortable". She did tell me that as i got bigger that I would most likley feel sick if I lay on my back, which I did, so I slept on my left or right side with a pillow between my knees and one under my bump!

I hated sleeping on my left side more cos it made my tummy sore and made my wind worse.

I'm moving so much at night recently I'v been having better luck with sleeping proped up mostly leaning to my left but yea I've heard conflicting reports and it is REALLY frustrating of course I may just be overly grumpy due to lack of sleep
