.. my left boob was rock hard - ouch! No redness or anything that I could see.
I'm feeding C off that side now, and he did seem to struggle with the flow at the beginning but happy enough now after some huge burps and a rest. Oh - now he has hiccups! Oh you poor thing! That sounds like it could turn into mastitis. Any lumps? Is the pain a prickly broken glass in your breast sensation?
Feed off that side as much as you can without ignoring the other breast. When you are feeding massage the lumps towards the nipple. However, don' t over feed or express as that can cause you to make more milk and cause more blockages. Take some nuerophen as its a safe anti-inflammatory to take when bf. And maybe send DH out for a cabbage. Cabbage has some interesting natural chemical in it that helps cure mastitis. store the cabbage in the fridge, feels great on sore breasts and only use a couple of times a day and for no more than 20 minutes each time otherwise it can dry up your milk. A hot pack on your breast before you feed will help the milk flow. If your breasts are still sore later in the day and especially if you feel like you have the flu go to the doctor, its mastitis. If you get mastitis the other things can help but you really need antibiotics to clear it up. Take care! Edited for spelling |

Did you go longer between feeds? It could just be negorged. Mine did that this morning when James slept in. It was rock hard and lumpy. Totally fine after a feed and not sore ..just uncomfy in a "wake up and feed NOW" kinda way.

| my breasts do that if we go too long between feeds. They are often like that in the morning after henry hasn't fed for a few hours. Very sore at first and when he starts feeding but then it eases once he's finished. Keep an eye on it. Deffinately keep feeding on both sides, also try leaning forward slightly while feeding on that side (will make you feel like milking cow). Massage it in the shower too just let milk go everywhere. (massage in a downwards motion towards the nipple. Hope you feel better soon |

I wouldn't worry. Most likely he either slept in, or he has been growth spurting lately and has just cut back a bit - but your body is still up for the earlier demand. It happens all the time and is kinda funny, really. Offering it first was the best thing to do (and probably felt great, too). -------------  |
