Hi guys,

Just thought Id come in here and ask what sort of diet you were on when you got your BFP?

Does diet really control things about a BFP?

I don't think it matters too much. I was on an absolute crap diet of junk when I got my BFP with Daniel and this time around I was eating healthy

I didnt do anything special, did try to cut down on the caffiene.. but we should all do that anyway.

I ate normally  (but I normally eat pretty healthily anyway), and started taking folic acid

Cut down on caffeine though (2 cups per day max) and pretty much stopped drinking completely. I never had more than 1-2 standard drinks per week, if that, when we were TTC.

Got my BFP pretty much within the 1st month of trying...

I stopped drinking 3 months prior, had my ussual coffe or 2 per day though. I ate pretty healthy generally, and also took folic acid 3 months prior to starting to 'try'...... took about 4 months for us to get a BFP.
Then my diet took a major turn for the worst feeling so crap. So I personally rekon- whatever you can do prior to concieving- the better as its what sets the environment for the first 12-16 weeks (at which stage its basically a parasite taking from you all the goodness)

Coming from an animal production perspective, where there is lots of emphasis on getting cows/sheep pregnant at the right time, they say what is important is that they are NOT losing weight. Ideally, you want them to be gaining weight, but I'm not advocating you rush out and gain weight! Within reason, the actual weight is less important than the change.

Now, I know we are very different from cows and sheep (and I'm not trying to offend with the comparison), but it does make sense. If you are losing weight your body is not getting enough for its own demand, and it would not be in your interests (metabolically) to add more demand to your energy needs by getting pregnant. [Note - this is just a generalisation, I know plenty of people will have got pregnant whilst losing weight, but generally, it is less likely to than if their weight was stable]

So I don't think what you eat makes a big difference, unless its causing you to lose weight.

You have been losing weight for a while yeah? Maybe its time you stopped for a bit? xx

I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week (decent workouts too, heavy weights and cardio) when I got pregnant. Exercise is good, and you shouldn't stop once you get your BFP!

Too much exercise isn't great but then neither is too little lol. I was (and still am)a pretty strict vegetarian, so whilst TTC, I cut back on caffeine to one cup a day (not that I was drinking much more than that anyway!), and started taking vitex and folic acid etc. Although I had been taking folic acid for years anyway lol.

I guess my diet has always been pretty healthy, but whenTTC got too much for me, I joined WW online to focus my mind on a dfferent sort of charting lol, and lst 3 kgs....I wasn't very overweight or anything, it was more a mindset thing IYKWIM? Whatever the case, it worked and I didn't get to finish my 3 month subscription to WW as I got knocked up before then!

I'm not sure whether it has anything to do with it, but I was told I'd likely have problems getting pregnant. I was on a gluten free diet at the time (we didn't start ttc when I was eating gluten) but ended up getting pregnant within two months! Back on the gluten now though...

Hey Dal, well as you already know I fell (unexpectedly) pregnant a few weeks prior to my wedding, so I was right in the middle of a very strict diet and a hell exercise regime to get into my dress!

I was lifting very heavy weights at the gym 3 -4 times per week with my PT, walking atleast 10mks per day and my eating was very very strict and I managed to get a BFP even when we weren't "officially" trying lol!

I couldn't have been any more healthier or fitter in my life than at the time I got my BFP!

This is totally just my opinion.... take it or leave it :)

I think consistency is important in terms of your diet and lifestyle. And to find a rhythm you are comfortable with....

Exercise in moderation- keep it 'realistic'- because otherwise when the hormones kick in, and you start feeling crappy (if you do), you will struggle to be content at sleeping all day if you need, or blobbing on the couch, which you very well may need to do. Dont set yourself up for guilt trips. The exercise is good don't get me wrong....
Same with eating- You may not be able to eat what you do now once the hormones kick in- I got really depressed because I couldnt eat healthy, and well... I lost 3kg in 10 weeks (I only weighed 59kg) I was eating pizza and mashed potato, 2 min noodles, and pop tarts!

You can stress your body out by doing too much exercise if you didnt before, or if you lose/gain lots of weight, all of which could affect TTC. Just like psycological stress can.

I think relaxation is the key- if you feel good in yourself mentally and physically- its the best start.

My 2c
