We'll be starting on cloth nappies in a week or two and I was wondering if there were any recommendations on how often to change a real nappy.

Hayden is 6mths and we've been on eco disposibles since birth, he gets a new nappy when he wakes in the morning and then after his morning and afternoon sleeps plus one more fresh one in the mid/late afternoon and then at bed time, so about 5 a day and then any random poopy ones.

The nappies we will be using are a UK brand called Tots Bots and are bamboo so more absorbant than cotton I understand.

What do you normally do, new nappy before or after naps or both??!!

i think it's a bit of trial and error... Natalie has quite sensitive skin, so I err on the side of caution, and change more freqently than I probably need to (about 1/2 hour before naps, and then maybe 1/2 hour after - keeping in mind she only sleeps for 30mins!). We go through about 6-7 a day, plus a disposable (or 2) overnight.

I figure I have enough for 2 days at that rate, and it makes no difference washing 5 or 7 nappies a day! For longer naps, I would change just beforehand.

Jack goes through about 5 a day, first thing in the morning, 11am before nap, btwn 1-2pm after nap, probably about 4pmish then 6pm at bed time. There is sometimes a change between wake up and nap if it gets dirty.

However I often have to use a hemp trifold and MF insert otherwise he leaks and I wouldn't consider him a heavy wetter.

It really depends on how much your baby wets. My son had never been a huge wetter and when we switched to cloth (Fuzzi Bunz) at 5mths old we never went through more than 6 nappies per 24hrs. Do Bamboozles have a fleece lining? If not you might find he complains to have his nappy changed sooner as he'll be used to the dry feeling of a disposable. If it doesn't have a built-in fleece lining you can buy them to add (you can get them cheap enough off TM) or just buy some microfleece and cut up your own. The fleece will act as a stay-dry layer as fitted nappies can feel really wet compared with disposables.

I change Joel when he gets up from each sleep so 7.30, 11, 2.30, 6pm. Then hes in a sposie overnight, and also any random poo moments. So at least 5 a day.

I use Tots Bots Bamboozles too.
Usually fresh nappy upon waking (6ish), then about 9.30, 12.30, 3.30 and a fresh one before bed. Might have a few more changes if really wet or poos.

i change my boy just before each nap. works out to be just over every 3hours. And we use one cloth nappy (with an extra insert) through the whole night. If wearing a dissposable he won't make it through the night but in cloth he will (i thought this was very interesting). We use eco bots. It is a bit of trial and error. I found when he wasnt on solids runny poo would come out the sides (ewww gross) but now solids have started cloth are better than dissposables. Good luck with working it out for your baby and your nappies

I am on tots bots bamboozles with my boy also. About 5 changes a day is right. I use a booster at night but no stay dry layer as I like that he tells me when he is wet. No rash so far!

Yea about 5 a day. You can kind of tell if it needs changing by how heavy it is anyway
