my sister is due on 1 Aug (sorry mind is to sleep deprived to work out weeks at the mo) and is overseas. Anyway her bp is 122 over 55 and she is wondering if there is anything she should be doing to bring it back to normal. She has been having dizzy spells etc and also really bad ms so if anyone can give me any thoughts for her I shall pass them on to help ease her mind. Thanks heaps ladies

I only had high BP when I went over due, but when I got a huge dizzy spell and called my mw she told me I need to drink cold water and get lots of rest.

yeh I got down to 80 over 55 but am bout 120 over 55 now I get dizzy sometimes so sit down and rest drink lots of water and tell her to carry what ever she can find thats equivilant to barley sugars in her bag so she can suck on one as soon as she feels funny that should help.

Her problem is low blood pressure which is not harmful but is annoying. For both issues she needs to keep eating quite often throughout the day and give her body a bit of rest after breakfast so the blood sugars have time to rise.

Just bumping this up...my blood pressure is kinda lowish - 104/53 and I get faint feelings quite often throughout the day. What kind of food should I be eating throughout the day?? I'm always sucking on peppermints (because of MS) but it doesn't do much. I also have plums that I snack on...but none of this seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas?

Kate- I'm in the same boat as you....have found eating lots of snacks like dried fruit and nuts (if you like them!) through the day helps a bit...also never miss b'fast even if you have ms!  With my bad ms, I found stuff like tahini on toast sat ok, and food like dried apricot or figs are good too as they're high in iron. I also found my low BP is worse if I'm tired.

prunes are good, and raw almonds. Low GI, and has natural sugars. I had pretty low BP in the first few months- its quite normal when you feel sooooooo crap. and you arent eating how you were, and all the changes etc.
Keeping your blood sugar steady is a good idea.

Most importantly- water!

Prunes and almonds are pretty ....so I might buy some dried apricots...I guess I'm going to have to experiment. I'm not a huge fan of dried fruits, except apricots and sultanas/raisins...and a very not big fan of any kind of nuts (except Honey Roasted Peanuts - they're good!!) It's quite hard as I have to watch my sugar intake at the same time because of my GD risk (I have already been referred to a dietician because of it).

I have breakfast every morning - 3 crumpets with jam. They're the only thing that settles my stomach (discovered after gagging on porridge) in the mornings (plus they taste really good!) LOL

I did a thread on low BP not so long ago... mine is 90/60 or 90/70 consistantly which is extremely low for me. I do things slowly to avoid fainting and I'm trying to make sure I eat and drink regular and sugary things seem to help a little but I haven't found anything magical that fixes it. My GP said fluids is the best cure.

normal is defined as around 120/80 although it can vary depeding on the person. mine stays around 110/50 because i am quite fit so for some people it is fine. i questioned my doctor when i was pregnant and he said its annoying but not much i can do except be careful not to hit my head of the way down. lol. try upping your water intake and massage your baroreceptors when you stand up as it takes the head spinning feeling away
