I think dreamfeeds are the funniest things ever, mainly cos you can get a baby to feed asleep.

We chose a time, 10.30 and try to do it at the same time every night, sometimes now he is getting bigger he wakes at 10 wanting feeding (depending what time we fed in the evening)

But when he doesn't we go in, don't turn the lights on, just let enough light from the hall drift in so you can see him, we bottle feed so just pull his lip down a little and put the bottle in and he goes for it, normally keeping his eyes shut, we can normally change him with eyes shut too.

If he does stir he is super relaxed and goes down very easily, don't normally need to burp them either as they are just so relaxed.

could never do it breast feeding without waking him though as latching on was a mission. But I gather its the same principle.

I understand it works for some babies and makes no difference to others though.

ditto what Fionaandfinlay says. There is info on the sleep store site - www.sleepstore.co.nz. We do it and it works really well, but my sister had no luck - it just seems to depend on the baby

My 2 never got it, they both would wake at the same time later in the night so we never bothered, although both were BF at the time so don't know if that made a difference or not. They both woke during the dreamfeed but were pretty sleepy on the boob and easy to get back to sleep.

I do dreamfeeds, my girl's breastfed so...

I go in to her room just before i head off to bed, leave the light off (as already said, the light from the hall is enough). unbutton my maternity bra, very gently take off blankets and pick her up (like she's a newborn - fully support her head and stuff), sit down with her in my arms - she latches realy easy while asleep, as soon as she smells the milk she starts doing a "goldfishy face" - let her drink as much as she wants (if she doesn't suck for long I poke my boob and she starts sucking again for fear of losing it). When she has had enough she sort of drops off the boob and goes really limp again so I gently get up and pop her back into bed.

If I wake her up by accident when I'm getting her out of bed, I change her then, but if she's asleep I don't bother as her nappies are barely damp overnight.

my boy was BF till 8mnth and this one im gonna BF for as long as i can so do you think there is a difference in the sleeping if you do DF? after the feed do they tend to stay asleep most of the night or still up every 3 or so hours? Ty has only started sleeping through night since he turned one..........curious as to if a DF really makes a difference to sleeping or not

Joel has been sleeping through from 7pm till 7amm from 11 weeks and no dreamfeed. I think if your baby is going to sleep through they will no matter what you do. Leah didn't sleep through until about 8 months.

If I don't DF my girl wakes up some where between midnight and 2am as well as her normal wake up of 4.30 am, so it's worth doing for me.

Same for us we didn't do it one night and he woke at 1.30 when he normally used to wake around 4. For us it meant that even when newborn I rarely got up more than once a night, as a feed at 3/4 would last through to the morning.

He has started sleeping through and i don't plan on dropping the dreamfeed until he is on solids or until he stops taking much, currently at the dreamfeed he takes a full bottle so obviously is hungry.

Then I know some think it made their babies wake up more - so I guess you could just try it and see. The one night we dropped it confirmed it works for us.

Now I know what a DF means.

I may have to try that one tonight at 10.30, I am so tired I hope I can stay up till then.

If she slept through the night it will be the first time.

Fingers Crossed.
