Okay so my little man will happily go off to sleep by himself through the day but I'm afraid to say at night he's in a BAD habit. You see he is waking every three hours and he wants boobie. He doesn't fall asleep on the boobs but will go straight back to sleep after he has been put back into his bed.
I am having to get up three or four times a night and he doesn't need these feeds. He eats plenty through the day. How would you go about stopping. I was thinking about just refusing him but I'm worried he'll just cry all night. The crying until he stopped didn't work for us when trying to get him to go to sleep nicely at bedtime so not sure it would work in this situation either. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

No advice, but I have the same problem. Have tried to let Isabella just cry for a bit & see if she'll go back to sleep, but she gets more & more worked up & then that wakes her brother up too  If I feed her when she wakes at night, she's back asleep again within 10 minutes. my boy was exactly the same...........he was about 8mths before he went to one feed then 11mnths after we gave him bottled water he decided this stinks so slept through at 1.........he is more then likely doing it for comfort..............let your partner go in instead of you as he will smell boob and think dinner time..........once he finds out dinner isnt coming it should be fine............i would start on the weekend as you could be up all night :) is he taking bottle too? or will he? cause if that doesnt work then try the warm water..........he may just be thirsty..........good luck and hoping my #2 is a good sleeper as im exhausted :) ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

| first I have been going through the same thing for weeks now. I am putting it down to the heat. Alex doesn't wake properly but he won't settle without boobie. Hopefully things settle down for both of us soonish |

At around that age Blake started waking every 3 or 4 hours instead of just the once like he had been doing. That probably lasted about 2 or 3 weeks (I was an absolute wreck!) but then he grew out of it helped I think by getting his solids well established. I fed him, when he woke he would feed for a decent amount of time so I figured he actually was hungry and to not feed him was just delaying the inevitable. I was a bit worried that I was setting up a bad habit but he now sleeps through the night fairly regularly so it seems no long term damage was done! If you don't think he's hungry though then that's a different story and I'm no use whatsoever! -------------

I'm too lazy to read the responses at the mo but on my dvd baby sleep solution it had 2 methods for weaning night feeds that I can remember
1. reduce the amount of time on the boob over each night. So say he feeds for 10 mins, the next night only let him feed for 8 mins then 6 mins the following night etc 2. Spread out the time going into him, so if he wakes at midnight, don't go in for 10 mins or something like that. We did the first one and it worked well for us. We were using bottles by this stage and just reduced the amount he was getting until he figured out it wasn't worth it and slept |

Jack still wakes at least twice a night and he often wants a drink of water. I am quite thirsty at night as well.
I would suggest that if this is a relatively new problem it could be heat related and go away once the weather cools. If he is not going to sleep on the boob then the feeding is not necessarily a sleep association ------------- Lindsey

| Dominic used to do this too, I almost went completely potty with sleep deprivation! What we did was to offer him a drink of cool boiled water from a bottle (while he is still in cot), then resettle him with his dummy and teddy bear. After a while he stopped expecting to be feed. He still needs a drink of water during the night occassionally but don't we all? |

I much prefered to feed Isabelle than try "other" means .. it was soo much quicker.

It sounds like many of you are just going with the flow of things.
I'm just so tired I want to give something a try as I'll be looking after extra kiddies through the day soon so I need more energy. Last night went okay. He had a late feed at 12pm (I've never been successful with a Dreamfeed so I hope to just slowly bring that feed back until it at a more suitable time) then he woke at four and sung to himself till 5am where he threw a fit. I spent 30 minutes trying to get him down then DH gave him a cuddle and he went back to sleep till wake up time 7am. I expect tonight might be harder but I'm going to keep trying and see what happens. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
