Hey Oxy, mine in Wellington cost $65 for the first session where she learns aobut your health and stuff and then $55 per session after that. I have recently found out with our particular health insurance i can claim up to $300 a year of accunuture so if you have that!!!
For me, i was trying to regulate my cycles as they were really long. She would start at the start of my cycle and put neddles at particular points to stimulate growing a healthy egg. usually about 3 needles across my pelvis sort of thing. And others to help with relaxation.
She would do a simalr thing when i "should" have been ovulating so say day 12 or something to help with ovulation.
I got pregnant first cycle of this (and was taking vitex for the first part of my cycle) and now she is helping me with a holding technique to make baby stay! and also to relax and clam down.
Gees, hope thats enough info for you lol. I would recomend it jsut for the relaxing state it gives you and you feel not as concerned about TTC even tho you are getting accupunture to do jsut that IYKWIM

That's how I started out with accupuncture Oxy, I'd hurt my back and was claiming under ACC so was only paying $20 a session.
My lady is really lovely and we got talking and next thing I know she's sticking pins in my feet and across my pelvis to help with my endo LOL
I'm still receiving fertility treatment now, had my first TTC treatment on cycle day 7 and cycle day 15, will see what happens next week if it worked - I've got everything crossed that I'll be as lucky as everyone else getting their BFP after 1 treatment

My DH had acupuncture on his knee and thought it was great. I had one lot of acupuncture on my neck when I started my acupuncture for fertility and that was great too!! I'd definitely recommend it.

Holy cow Treen - are they using gold coated pins?
My acupuncturist charges roughly the same as Hannahbil's - here is his website: "http://www.vitalis.co.nz" - www.vitalis.co.nz
We started nearly at the very beginning of my cycle, and fit in 3 treatments prior to ovulation - which in itself was a surprise as I had no idea if I was ovulating regularly or not!
And as it turns out it took just the one cycle for us to get pg, and then visits once a week for the first trimester to prevent another miscarriage - all seems to still be going well at this stage.
I also got my acupuncturist to needle me for back and pelvic pain, which was wonderful - I must get off my bum and book another appointment soon. So yes, it can be used to treat many differnet ailments / aches / pains.

Oxy23 - where did you go for treatment?
Acupuncture shouldn't be "painful" as such, I found for the first session or two it was a little itchy when the needles went in but that soon settled down.
Were you nervous before you went in? Being tense may make it seem 'worse', could you take some rescue remedy before your next appointment?
I'd also highly recommend discussion your feelings with your treatment provider, as something doesn't sound right to me.

Yeah, i have never had accupunture on my knees or anything cos i don't have anything sore but the worse pain that i had was very minimal. You should feel like a dull ache in your muscle/bone where they are targeting but that should all subside afterwards.
When i chose my accupunturist i decided to go with one who specialised in fertility as that is what i wanted her to do for me and felt more comftable knowing that she knew what to focus on

Mine often hurt when the needles go in, though some spots don't really hurt at all and some make me jump. But once they're in they shouldn't really hurt and also after they shouldn't really either so 'd definitely mention that when you go back.
Sorry I hadn't noticed you'd asked about how long it was b4 DH noticed it was working, I'll check with him when he gets home. For my neck I noticed straight away though I think mine was sore from stress and tension so not really the same as an injury.

Oxy - I'd either be expressing your concerns and telling them that you're in pain with / after treatment, or quite frankly I'd go somewhere else.
I'd highly recommend my own acupuncturist as I have already suggested to the others, Dr Vitalis - "http://www.vitalis.co.nz" - www.vitalis.co.nz

I only go to the one in onehunga because its is only 2 minutes away very handy
As for the pain its only temporary. I guess 5 years of pain and putting it off and not getting it fixed i now pay the price
No Pain no Grain but it is still annoying the pain but if it helps my knee get better then i will have to put up with the pain after each session

Wait, you're talking about the pain at your injury site... not actually caused by / when the acupuncture needles are in? As I read it I thought you were experiencing pain during your sessions from the acupuncture itself.... ?

I'd say that's pretty normal, acupuncture is not as much of a 'quick fix' as medication (for example)... although if you are concerned you really need to discuss it with your acupuncturist.

Hi
Just wondering what experience people have had with acupunture to assist in the ivf process. Is is useful? How can it help? What are the costs and how long should it be done for?
|
Posted By: 2boysnbug
Date Posted: 11 February 2009 at 12:27pm
1stly MINDY W- Annie warrington costs aprox $60 a session. the 1st session is always around 2 hours cause she needs to get a detailed history before she starts the acupuncture. also if you have been doing charts etc to try and conceive take those with you cause it would be really handy!
ALSO... i have been trying to conceive for 18 months did acupuncture for one month, had AF and the wam! i am now BFP due October. have just been to see Annie to tell her the great success story :-), oh and i also gave up coffee so that must have helped in the scheme of things too
her phone # is 06 358 0333 or 027 5711 473. she is on ferguson street. :-0 good luck

I found an Acupunturist here in town but she appears to be one of those "jack of all trads, master of none" typre people and don't want to risk it.
So went web searching about Acupressure, same principles, no needles.
Found some helpful stuff. Check this website out

Millie - if you are able to narrow it down to anything specific at all, like unusually long cycles, heavy bleeding, length of time it is taking to conceive, recurrent m/c etc... it helps them assess where to start with treatment etc.
Dr Vitalis will give you a form to fill out anyway if you do decide to go for a consultation.
