Does anyone know how many or more or less how many newborn diapers a baby needs before going over to the next size up?

Totally depends on Baby's size, some baby's usually those 9lb plus barely fit the newborn ones at all! So I wouldn't buy too many! Sorry that's not much help!

Yep it totally depends because it's not just in the weight (which varies at birth but also in terms of weight gain after birth) but also whether you have a short chubby or long skinny baby.
I say start with a box of newborn size then start buying the next size up (if buying in advance to save $$ is what you were hoping to do). If you need to buy more newborns that's no prob and you already have the next size stashed away.

Some people I know have had bubs in NB naps for a good 4-6 weeks if not more, where as others I know have been straight into infant size. I've bought way too many NB but I figure I can sell them on TM after if she's on the bigger size.

The warehouse has those boxes of 50 huggies new born, you could get one of those to stash away and add as you go.

It really depends on the baby, from memory I think Caden was in newborn until about...6-8 weeks old and then we went to infant size(these were huggies aswell). But Caden was born 9lb 8oz, so not a little baby at all lol, he could fit the infant size nappies at 4 weeks old!

http://www.babyonline.co.nz - babyonline do bulk boxes of dryups & their NB naps go upto 6kgs so if you have a bigger bub they would fit for longer
I dont think its worth buying expensive naps for a NB coz they are poo machines & you'll be chewing through them

I've wondered about this too but like caitlynsmygirl I'd rather have too many than too few (especially because we live 45kms out of town), so have got 2 boxes of NB plus extra packets and 8 packets of the next size up. And like Dana i figure i sell on any i dont use up

My girls were only 2.2kg and 2.7kg when they were born and yet the newborn sizes still didn't last that long! It really depends on the size of your baby and everyone is different. I wouldn't buy too many newborn mayby just a couple of the bulk boxes of huggies newborn and I'd be bulk buying the treasures ultra and huggies infant size while they're on special. Those 2 brands usually go on sale for half price every couple of weeks.

Honestly, don't stress about it.
Any supermarket will swap unopened packs for another size without a receipt.
If you feel a bit bummed, just say your hubby brought the wrong size.
I ended up swapping about 6 packets of NB for infant. I have had to swap other sizes at other stages too.
I think we used about 8 packets of NB and DS was over 9lbs. (I have always brought the small packets as I have found they work out cheaper when you get them on special)

I can't remember how long we used newborn nappies for but I have put away the ones we had left for the next one!
So...if you're planning on having more than one I wouldn't worry about having too many and like others have said, better to have too many than too few. We bought our first lot from someone on TM so there definitely is a market out there.
