As some of you know I am studying Child birth education, this will enable me to teach parents centre courses next year like the antenatal class. This is something I am so excited about and is a great stepping stone towards midwifery, which I would like to do once my family has grown up and gone to school.
Since my antenatal classes with Quinn, I felt that this is something I wanted to do and after helping on many Parents centre courses I am sure that this is a perfect career path for me.
As part of this course I have to attend 4 births ( one of them is to be a home birth). This is to help in my understanding of the birthing process and to help me feel more confident in my ability to teach parents about labour and birth.
As a labour support person I only have to be there – I can hide in the corner or I can heat up the towels and fill up water bottles. I can have as small or large role in the birth and that is completely the family choice as to what part they want me to play.
I had a student midwife during the birth of Quinn and I found it so helpful to have another set of hands and ears. She also took the photos of Quinn as he was coming into this world and I am so thankful for her being with us.
If you feel that having the support of an enthusiastic and willing student is something your family would consider, please email me and I can discuss it with you further.
Thanks, Laura.

Hi Laura,
Sorry I'm no help but just thought I'd say good luck. MIL is a midwife up North and loves it! Shes been doing it for 3 years now. I think its cool that younger people are taking an interest as theres definitly a shortage of decent midwives out there and they all seem to be older women. So we need a fresh batch of youthful energetic midwives out there

hi not much help to you at this stage sorry, just had my wee boy 5months ago. But was interested in having someone then lol because i thought it would be great to be able to help people learning. Having been a student nanny - i understand the need for people to volunteer so that you can get experience. Will keep an ear out for you with friends and family though. Good luck in you search. If only you'd asked this time last year :) Good luck

I'm no good to you either as this will be a c-section but I did have a student mw with my last pregnancy and she now works at CWH, if was fantastic having someone else there that was just happy to do anything to help and you dont feel guilty for asking cause thats just what they are there for.

Good luck!!
