grow from seeds right??? Or am I having a dumb moment?

| Dunno bout Kumara, but spuds need seed potatos. They are small potatos that you plant, not seeds |

They are not grown from seeds...You need to get seed potatoes...basicaly old potatoes used for growing new ones...ask at the garden centre, they will show you where they are ------------- http://lilypie.com">

You can also grow potatoes from the end of a potato...
take the end of the potato and slice it off a few centimetres thick (peel on preferably) and pop it on some soggy cotton wool in a saucer... keep the wool relatively wet and leave in a warm location (like a windowsill for example) and it'll grow some wee sprouts... then you can plant that straight into the ground I'm taking because the Kumara is of the same kind of family that it would grow the same way?? -------------

I heard somewhere that if you put the end of a kumara in a glass jar with water in and wait for it to grow shoots......leave it till the shoots are well established.........then it will transplant to the ground ok. -------------

This may sound really dumb but are seed potatoes thoes little root looking bits that grow on your potatoes if you leave them in the cuboard too long??? -------------

| Potato seeds come from the new tubers. As they mature over the season, they will tend to shrivel and grow shoots. The potato's are selected for eating and some are put aside for the purpose of the new growing season, which is around spring. If you only have a small plot to plant out, you could get a small container such as a 2litre ice cream plastic container and cut some Newspaper strips, you place it in the container with the potato's in. You then put the container into a dark dry place to encourage the eyes that have come up to sprout its shoots. The newspaper strips will absorb any moisture stopping rot setting in. |
