Last night I had a long pillow at my back, one under my right foot and one between my knees and under my head = 4 pillows
The night before I had 5 pillows
Am I comfortable? NO!!!!!
If I sleep the entire night on my side I get a really painful right hip, laying propped up on my back is comfortable for some of the night but by the wee hours I wriggle down onto my side. If I need to get up and pee I have to battle through the pillow collection and then get it all right again when I come back.
The worst thing is that I'm only 19 weeks! How am I going to be in the 3rd trimester.
Edit to add - no actually last night was also5 pillows! because I need to have something thin under the bump, too thick and it's really uncomfortable, too thin (eg - nothing) and equally uncomfortable.
The most comfortable I've been is when DH and I watched TV in bed and I lay sideways on him with my feet on my desk chair, pillow under knees and pillow on DH - apparently that didn't work for an all night arrangement for him. Then last night was another one with my legs and knees resting around him - again a no go for him for some reason, the last was before we found the thin pillow for the bump and he reached over and lifted it - apparently that one can only be done for 12 seconds at a time.

I hated it last time, especially when I found out we're supposed to sleep on our left side for the blood flow to the baby (or something like that).
In fact you've reminded me I should switch sides with DH and start sleeping on my left. I've seriously considered sleeping on the couch since the back support would be fabulous (and it's so nice and comfy).

I had 4 but am back to my normal one and one between my knees/ankles. I did have to use the big ones off the couch last night to prop my back up as the heart burn was too much and I couldn't sleep.
Perhaps you should have a look at those maternity pillows. A few of the ladies have sworn by them as they're moulded to you.

Currently I've got one pillow between my knees and legs, and a small cushion insert under my bump; the most "comfortable" I've been able to get so far!
Annoying when you have to turn over and rearrange them everytime your hip gets sore!
I have also heard that you're supposed to sleep only on your left side, but I'd like to know if the authors of that study tried doing that for a whole night!

Lol it's so annoying isn't it! Last night I had really bad heartburn so had two big euro pillows, two normal ones, plus my long pillow on one side and my 'wedge' on the other (well normally it's the same but only one euro pillow instead of two). Not that any of it helped, managed to sleep between 6am and 8am this morning, that's it! I don't stress too much about staying on my left, sleeping is blimmin hard enough as it is! And my midwife said not to worry about that anyway.
Was thinking the other night god I'll have to take all this crap to the hospital to be comfortable then realised (duh) that YAY I would actually be able to lie on my back! Or my tummy! Or however the heck I want to! Can't wait

Poor thing. Like you Sarah, I am DREAMING about laying on my back again, our poor hips.
I would not have been able to get through this pregnancy without my belly bean Maternity pillow... I bring it everywhere with me, even if we are just in the car for half hour. Dh can't wait till we have baby, cos the pillow takes up a bit of room, but it so works...

Um I sleep on my back alot of the time still It's the only really comfy position! I try to sleep on my sides but wake up and oops there I am on my back lol. Have't tried any pillows yet but probably will soon. I guess whatever makes you comfy is the way to go.....if you weren't meant to lie like that then surely it would be made more and more uncomfortable as the pg progressed (like sleeping on your tummy!)?

Im up to 5 pillows, think i should have just got one of the maternity pillows as its probably alot more comfy. Ive got 2 under my head (thanks heartburn), 1 between my knees and my feet up on 2 to try get rid of some swelling.
And baby hates it when i sleep on my left so have been sleeping on my right - need to remember to ask the MW about that

I literally gasp in pain if I go on my back. Emmecat, you should prolly read this article..
http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/pregnancy-articles/120.html
Also LG, almost too late in the game for you,but same article states that sleeping on your left reduces swelling..

Well I've just come back from baybecino with a maternity & nursing pillow full of beans. I had a lay down in the shop with it and it seems like it will at the very least help get ride of 2 or 3 of the other pillows. Not exactly cheap though.

Emmecat I was still sleeping on my back sometimes up to about 26 weeks I think. My midwife said if it was a problem (blocking that vein) you would either turn in your sleep or be uncomfortable enough to wake yourself up and turn. There's no way I could do it now though, far too uncomfortable.

Yeah, I agree with the back sleeping, I was still doing it until it got too uncomfortable. I think your body kind of tells you when its no longer safe to stay on your back!

i am still only on two pillows under my head. am more comfy on my left side but always get a sore hip, but I think I am getting used to it.
I don't sleep much anyway as DP is terrible at grinding his teeth during the night, so if I am getting to frustrated I just go and sleep on the couch. I like cuddling into the duvet, sort of using it as an extra pillow.
You could try using rescue remedy to try and relax you a little before sleep. Just get the normal formula, don't go for the sleep formula as it doesn't work.

Australia, but they sent it here in about a week.
Pretty pricey tho, but I would have paid double to get a good night's sleep

Whew! Well, it depends on how much more uncomfortable I get, I may just invest in one anyway...
And just because I'm nosey... can I ask where in Canada you're from... ?

FYI - I had a great sleep last night with my new pillow. It was easy to move it from a back support when I started that way to side sleeping support. I think it was worth the investment (then tonight could be a different kettle of fish, lol)

I still manage to fall asleep on my back and half way on my tummy. I find it very strange being 8 months preg and still able to do that, i can only lie on my tummy though if i have something very soft under me (lucky i have a very soft bed).
I also only have one (biggish) pillow under my head and a triangle one, kind of wedged between my arm and head and then it goes down to my tummy to stop me rolling onto my tummy at night (just cos im paranoid not cos its uncumfy).
I think i have been very blessed with being able to get to sleep easy and cumfy. BUT i think i pay the price with waking up at all hours of the night to go to the toilet only to find my lower back has clicked out of place, making it very very painful to get out of bed whether i roll onto the floor or sit straight up. It can take me upto 5 mins trying to get out of bed without bursting into tears, while also trying not to pee myself haha.
