For the last few days Alex doesn't want to begin to feed. He goes stiff gets grumpy and we have a little fight before he finally relents and sucks the nipple that is in his mouth. When we were at Mum and Dad's for a few days over Christmas he would go on alright but then kept pulling off and Mum said maybe he has an ear infection but now he is fine once he starts feeding its just getting him to start that is the issue. I have changed soaps about 4 days ago and so am thinking it could be this, and so wondered if I should just continue using it and he will get used to it, or is it something else? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks heaps ladies

It could be the soap or does he have a sore throat? When people get sore throats it hurts at first to swallow but once you start drinking its fine.

I think you might be right concernedmum as when he had boobie after his sleep before he took both sides no probs just like he does normally. We are off for imms tomorrow so will ask Nurse to have a look in his ears just to rule that out I think

Good idea to get his ears checked out just in case. If only they could talk and tell us what the problem was huh?  We moved to 4 hourly feeds by 4 months of age (DS was bottle fed) and that worked for us - he drank more at each feed, and fed more quickly and efficiently by that age too. Not sure how often you're feeding Alex now, but perhaps he is ready to have his feeds spaced out a little more?

Is he properly hungry? Being nosey? If he is not keen for it I'd probably pack it away and offer again in say 1/2 hour. I don't think it would be the soap issue because it sounds like it would have started before you changed.

If you think its the soap, express a few drops of milk and rub over and around the nipple so it tastes like what he wants!
