Over the past few days Callum has been keeping DH and I up for hours at a time - not with crying or anything but because he is so freakin noisy in his sleep! He does it during the day as well, so I think we just hear it more at night when everything else is quiet.
At the mo, because Callum is soooo teeny, we have him in our room but I am thinking about moving him into his own room sooner rather than later. We saw the paediatrician (one week home appointment) on Friday and she said the noises are "good" coz it means he's growing but of course I am being a nervous first-time mum and worrying that something is bothering him! He doesn't wake up (unless he's hungry) and he doesn't cry (ditto) and he SEEMS to be sleeping perfectly well ... it's just the grunting and groaning and snuffling is REALLY loud  It sounds like he's straining to push out gas or a big poo (but his nappies are dirty/wet very regularly so not sure that this is the prob, if there is one)...------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

Spencer use to make lots of noises in his sleep too. I was in hospital 6 days with him and learnt to sleep through them, I seemed to just tune into the hungry ones and wake up for those. Once we got home DH was waking to every little noise but he soon learnt to sleep through everything, even him screaming the house down.
If you put him in another room and use a monitor it probably won't be any quieter unfortunately. -------------

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking We'll have to get used to the noises because even on the monitor (eg when Callum's in bed before we are at night time) it's loud, it's still noticeable. Just practice, I guess  ------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

I could only handle Chloe sleeping in our room with us for about a week!! She was so noisy too, with all her grunting and sighing and wriggling and strange noises in her sleep. It drove me batty, and then I put her in her own room, which is just through the wall from ours. I can still hear when she wakes up and talks and cries, just not all the snuffles and grunts.
I remember going mental lying there trying to sleep, and all I kept thinking was "is she awake, am I going to have to feed her again soon!?" because of all her noise! ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

Yep, Daniel was in with us for one night then got evicted! Even at Christmas I could only handle him in my room for one night, then dispatched him to sleep with my nephews! Turns out he wakes every 45 minutes with his sleep cycle both day and night .
Do what you feel comfortable with - you will get used to the noise, but it is perfectly OK to have them in their own room as well. ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

Carys used to sniff, fart, grunt and make other weird noises too, hehe! It used to drive me crazy! She was in her own room but with the monitor on and after a couple of days I had to turn it off! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

This is a funny topic, Made me laugh reading some of your posts.... My son makes all sorts of noises to in his sleep but for me it's reassurance that he's ok, However there are times when Im lying there also thinking " Is he about to wake up? Shall I get ready to feed him? & then I stay awake waiting for him to cry for a feed and then it doesnt happen so by staying awake I've just gone and wasted precious ZZZZZZZZ time, LOL...Being Sleep deprived probably does'nt help the situation either so just do what makes you feel comfy, Maybe give baby a trial run in another room and just see how things go... ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

Same thing with sophia. Lucky her room is right next to ours and i could hear her noises a little but could really hear her "I'm hungry" noise so there was no need for the monitor and i gont some sleep :o) ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Hannah was a quiet (normal??) sleeper and we finally moved her out of our bedroom when she was six weeks old. Briona was a noisy and "snuffly" (but no cold) sleeper - so she was out at 2 weeks!! She did develop reflux but other than that, no reason to be a noisy sleeper. -------------  |

Lol. My boys were all very noisy sleepers at that age - and probably still are. I very quickly got them into their own rooms. I also learnt to sleep through the grunts and groans but I still wake to anything else.
